Before I try to start my recently installed sr engine I need to prime the oil pump, right. To do this I heard something about the turbo's oil return line, but can someone give me a detailed description of how to properly do this...

Thanks in advance:cool:

Yes, you definitely should prime the oil pump.

Easiest way:

Unplug the harness for your coilpacks. It's a big one towards the back of the engine on the intake side.

Unplug your Injectors (yes all 4) or unplug the fuel pump relay (either or).

Then take your oil cap lid and shine a flashlight in there while you have someone crank the engine. Keep cranking until you see oil starting to squirt around inside the head.

Then you should feel safe to start it (provided you have done everything else correctly).

Or unplug the cas plug near the front right of the valve cover and crank the engine for like 30 seconds

well if you change the oil first you will dump fresh oil on the motor (at least in the head) and it will do a lot of it's work on the way down. After that do the cranking thing and your set. Just don't rev it for the first 15 sec till the pressure comes up.

I seem to be having a problem priming my pump. I filled the motor with oil last night, but then did not try to start it (without coil packs) until today. The motor sat without oil for a little over a week while I was installing the motor and doing wiring. I turned it over without the coilpacks today, but did not see any oil shooting arround through the filler cap.

Will unplugging the CAS/injectors do anything excect not waste fuel?I know the pump works because I saw it and the motor run less than a month ago. Do I need to try priming the pump via the turbo return?

Thanks in advance.

Just a reminder, you might have done this. But, did you take all the sparkplugs out when you crank? With no compression, the motor (thus the oil pump) will crank at higher RPM then you'll get oil pressure faster providing your oil pump is good. When I primed my motor, it took me like 4 20-second cranks. As a note, if you have electrical oil pressure gauge, it'll be off when you crank. As soon as you stop cranking, it'll jump up to some PSI and starts descending.

Thanks for the reply. I did not remove the sparkplugs or unplug the injectors. I may also not have tried to crank it that long. I will try the things you mentioned later today and let you know.

I don't know if this will get a reply, but I have a 98 with the oil preasure light. I put in an s13. I did switch the sensors, should the sensor still work? If so, I can't get it to go off. Granted I haven't started the motor yet. Will cranking alone get the light to go off.
