how do i know if i have a bad transmission speed sensor

or how do i know if its going bad, other than CEL what are the noticeable symptoms

go take your buddies out and test it, if it still doesnt work, check that off the list. and while your under there, might as well test the wire to see if it even gets any power towards it.

Erratic transmission shifting, ABS and speedometer may not be working, etc.
