Hello...Please do not hang up! LOL...Seriously, My car was recently stolen, but recovered. My name is registered here, and the police will verify truth, if you think I am pulling something here...My car. 1989 Nissan Maxima GXE. The ignition was jerked out and a regular screw driver worked the first time I needed to drive it by just sticking it in what was left of where the key assembly once was. Now, I try and it seems everything just keeps turning (not catching anything, no ignition dash lights)and I can't seem to get anything to put in there to work. There is a small screw driver type metal gadget that fit into the hole, that appears to have a small piece of the end broken off, and It seems that might be why it no longer works. I just want to drive it to the mechanic and not pay for tow better yet, can I replace ignition myself?....Thank you ...All true...Joel Vitt-Ventura, Ca.

pic is too small. improvise another gadget that fits in. I assume you mean the the gadget in your hand is turning with no effect. if the switch itself is turning round and round, that is dangerous as you dont know where the wheel lock kicks in.

I dont have a diagram of this vehicle but take the ignition switch out and connect all the needed wires for running position and just touch the starting circuit together to start it. But the tow is less work so either way!

I wouldnt advise taking the ignition switch out . You dont want the steering wheel locking going 100 mph around a corner.
