how do i hook up the water temp gauge in the cluster? (rb20 s13)

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

does the stock gauge get the signal from the ecu? brown dash plug? i know its the black blue wire the dash plug, but where does it go on the rb20 ecu?

does not go to ecu goes directly from gauge to sensor.

anu idea what color the wire is from the sensor, where its located, and where the wire is located under my dash??

blue wire with black stripe. On white or brown plug which is the dashboard gauge cluster plug behind the glove box. simple connection. YOUR WELCOME!

thanks a bunch for responding, but i know its the blue/black stripped wire one the dash plug, but where do i connect that wire to ?

so i just extend that wire all the way to the coolant temp sensor and splice it in?

you don't need to run a separate wire from the dash plug to the water temp sensor!!!

your rb20 harness should already be connected to the water temp sensor. there's a plug next to the green relay near the ecu, it has the black/blue wire. just connect your dash black/blue to the black/blue wire on that plug.

this is what i did and i think its even more simple than what the other guys said. sorry guys.

take the dash wire blue with black stripe, and have that ready to splice.

now look around your ECU for 3 other plugs. these plugs would have plugged into the r32 dash. two of those plugs have a blue/black wire, but one of those plugs has the tach wire, speedo wire, ign relay i think, and a blue/black wire. use that plug. in any case one of those two plugs should have it. if you can find the plug with the speedo and tach wire, then the blue/black one should work.

so, you say it could be done right behind the cluster, just have to find the right wire?....

thanks so much guys!!

weird thing is, i dont have any extra plugs on the harness, only have clipped wires off the ecu, ill just look for another blue/black wire.

there should be two. look for the one closer to the yellow wire with a red strip ( i think thats the tach. wire), use that black and blue one.

ok tought i had everything HOOked up - NOPE- so i hooked up the black/blue - to black/blue on ecu plug- -- so when i put test light to it - it works - as soon as it gone it doesnt work -? what am i doing wrong -?

never mind - got it to work - wrong plug -hooking up Tach now -
