ok im going to tell you how to do the diagnostic tests on your speakers and other things this is for all m owners out there.have key fob on you DO NOT PUT FOOT ON BRAKE press start button too ACC position only HOLD SETTING button at the same time keep turning the power/volume button to the left and your diagnostic screen will appear.from this point on you can see if theres any problems with your M.the techs learned this from school.and someone should me how to do it cause b4 i was having problems with rattle issues at the rear panel.i too have the 14 bose speakers.you can find out alot of new information by doing this.this feature works on all the infiniti cars as long as it has the colored lcd screen. hope this helps.

you said sub sounds good with DVD and CD, but does it sound as good with Sat Radio? I will have my M35x on tuesday (bought online) and it has the Bose 14 speaker system. My last vehicle (nissan frontier) had the upgraded rockford fosgate system with sirius which included the powered sub. The difference in sound quality between sirius music and regualr FM radio was night and day. My M has Sirius also and wondered if the sub sounds better while listening to Sirius.

I did the whole process and everything checked out to be in good working order. It just seams to not pick up the bass in FM radio.

One of the annoying aspects of the 14-speaker Bose stereo is that it doesn't remember tone control settings between the different inputs. So a setting that sounds good on DVD's (leaving it pretty flat) will produce no bass on the radio for example. I find I have to adjust bass and treble whenever I select a different input. The FM radio for example needs a healthy treble boost to avoid sounding totally dead. Have you tried bumping up the bass - this may be all you need to do.

My car is going in for a 60k service next week - I don't have high hopes for a software fix on this, but I'm going to ask just the same.

The problem is that FM and AM radio waves are carried through the air over a rather weak frequency. This limits the actual range of the sound depending on the type of radio freq. each station broadcasts on. The sound quality will always sound better with DVD or CD because the actual fidelity of the sound is a ton higher. I have sat radio in my M as well and the sound is definitely much more full because the sound is coming from a digital signal which is much closer to CD quality than radio. I have plenty of bass in my ride, but the rattle the sub causes drives me nuts. I even get rattle when I set it very low. I would love to know if someone has a solution. Is there a way to pad the speaker grille or something like dynomat?

How did you fix the rattle? When I have the bass maxed out, the cover rattles. Any suggestions?

Hey blackm35xbourbon - I tried getting the diagnostics screen to come up following your instructions but I never got any type of settings screen. I put the car in ACC while holding the settings button next to the nav wheel and kept turning the volume/audio power button to the left as you instructed. What am I doing wrong? Is there a certain order or amount of time you have to hold something down? I would greatly appreciate some clarity so I can try and fix my rear sub panel rattle as well. Thanks!

With all this chat about the sat radio making the bass sound better I opted to get it. Well now I know what your talking about when you mentioned the rattle!! But all in all the bass still isnt up to par for me. So I'm gonna go with the 2 12's in the trunk to help it out. I guess its time for some dynamat for me
