Ok so I have an issue. I have a '90 hatch and I cant get my driver side motor mount out because the steering arm and PS? lines are in the way. My friend stripped the bolt when he tried to get it, and I cant fit and angle grinder in that space to cut it off so what do I do?

If I ever have one come in with a stripped nut I usually saw in between the subframe and mount with a sawzall and cut the stud.

How do you get it to fit? Do you go from underneath the car or from the engine bay? My motor is still in too, I just have it lifted with a cherry picker. If I knew how to post pictures from my iPhone i would

I have done with the engine in the car but i have a smaller sawzall with a like 7 inch metal blade. I went from the top just move the accessories that are blocking you , my saw fit between it all.

If you mean he rounded off the nut instead of stripped , they make special sockets that will grip the shoulders of a rounded off nut or bolt.

I did the exact same thing so I took a sawzall to it. ( It was a B**** and the engine wasn't even in there lol) Good luck! You'll get it off eventually.

you may have room to get vice grips in there, you may only be able to move 1/16th of a turn before you have to re-grab it, but eventually you'll get it.

Well if you are going to take the engine out why dont you just unbolt from the engine side. And take the engine out, then you'll have enough room in there :)

Alright man I'll run to sears and check it out. Only problem is, I Can't fit any kind of tool in there without it being at an angle. So idk if the socket will work or not but hopefully it does.

Thing is, I just dropped the motor in about a month ago but I didn't think the motor mounts were this bad, they shake my trans so it doesn't catch gears half the time. But to sum it up, I don't want to pull the motor if I don't have to haha

you could try what i had to do but it was a pain...
i first removed the driver's side tie rod (from the rack) and turned the wheel aside to get it out of the way.
then remove the bolt for the lower control arm about halfway to have the nut and bolt out of the way.
then get the smallest cut off wheel you can find (i was actually able to fit a 3 inch one) and keep cutting the nut and bolt off in small pieces. it eventually got so small i just knocked it off with an air hammer :gapteeth:
good luck!

I actually was able to use a 3 inch cut off wheel on the passenger side without having to remove anything. But I figured I'd have to take out that bolt that gets in the way and the tie rod which kind of pisses me off :tisk: but ohh well it'll be worth it in the end. Thanks for all the advice, if I can ever figure out how to post pictures of my car I will, but until then take it easy.
