how do i get head studs out of the head!

i snaped a stud by over torque'n it, and now i cant take it out its to short for me to use a stud remover, and i tried using the EASY OUT, but that crap didnt work... any one else got any ideas???

Hmmmm... why would you want to over torque or how did you even get into that situation?

If it's below the block surface, Only way is try to drill a hole inside of the stud... good luck because the stud is pretty damn hard metal.

if it is out of the block enough to put two nuts on it, thread them on and turne them against ech other as tight as you can then turn the bottom one. If it is snapped even or below the deck you will have to become aquanted with some cobalt drill bits cuz head bolts are tough stuff, el-cheapo bits will get you nowhere.

there is a special rachet head for gripping studs. i borrowed one from my mechanic. bless his soul. you only need 12-15 ftlbs of torque on the exhaust header bolts which is barely snug. whatever you do dont overtighten. if you strip the aluminum threads you are in for a nightmare. use antiseize on the new ones.

sorry to butt in but just wondering. does head studs and main studs mean the same thing? also what is the tool called? gonna need it soon so i gotta grab one.

I believe Craftsman makes something called a...wait for it...Craftsman Stud Remover. Creative name. Search around on the Sears website. I'm pretty sure they still make 'em.
