take off the cam bolts, and then you may need to give it a little pursuasion for sprocket to come off.

How the heck did you fit an impact wrench in the engine head area? much praise. I had the hardest time trying to get a regular ratchet/torque wrench when I was trying to get the nut from the cam gear to camshaft off on my sohc.

I also had the hardest time getting the damn thing not to spin w/ the turning of the ratchet (I have an auto - keep it at that ).

If you already have the cam sprocket bolt off, it can sometimes get a little stuck on the end of the cam there. Just some light tapping with a rubber mallet should pop it off fairly easially.

I just took an adjustable wrench on the flat edges of the cam, put a ratchet on the end of the cam (for the bolt), and a six foot piece of pipe. After all, I believe it was Aristotle who said, "with a long enough lever, I could move the world".

oh, and leave it in the head, bolted down, that way you can jam your wrench against the side of the head, unless you feel brave enough to try to put a cam in a vise. Finally, I suppose if you had to (BAD IDEA!!!), you could leave the chain on it and hit the starter, like you might to take off the crank pulley.
