We're doing a a timing chain on my friends ka24e and we cant get the front cover off, its not bolted on by anything visibly so I'm guessing we have to drop the oil pain and hit the cover down but how do we drop the pan without taking off the crossmember? or how do we lower the crossmember without unbolting the motor mount?

it probably just has a really good seal on it, you have to sort of pry it off (or at least thats what my experience was on the oilpan on the sr). I know the front cover isnt the same as the oil pan but in my FSM for the SR It suggest using a very narrow (razor like) tool to seperate the two peices after it has been unbolted. It says to not use a screwdriver or something like that. again, this is for the oilpan, but they use the same liquid sealer so i dont see why it would be difforent.

un bolt the top motor mount bolts one on each side. put a jack under the bell housing and jack it slowly. u may need a pry bar to get it off the mounts. unbolt the pan let it drop then unbolt the oil pickup inside it ull see what i mean. then u can slide it out. i jsut did this about 3 weeks ago installing my turbo kit. it was on a DE but they both bolt into the same car

We took my timing chain cover off without dropping the oil pan. Just unbolting it.

To get the front cover off, you should just have to unbolt the first 5 or 6 bolts on the front of the pan, then just pry the front cover off using a screwdriver, tire iron with a flat end, or some other similar flat object.

Jacking the car up by the bellhousing works great. Suggestion--wood between the jack and bellhousing.
