compression, leak down test it. Sea foam it(dont know if this applies to SR's or not, I dont see why it wouldn't) then do normal maintence, replace gaskets, fluids, filters etc. Then voila your good to go.

check as many things as you can and replace things as need be. if your like me, it takes me several months of everyday driving to be comfortable with a car enough to know if Im pushing it or not and where its short-comings are.

Things to check are:Check ECU for trouble codesCheck ALL vaccum lines and replaceCheck your timing no matter whatCompression test (all cylinders should be no more than 10psi off of each other)Read you plugs and change if neccessaryGet an AFR readoutNew things like a fuel filter, fuel pump 'sock', have the radiator pressure tested. All those stupid little things can add up majorly.OOO also get a voltmeter and start checking sensors

Yes that is the correct way to set the timing. And yeah having the timing set to 0 would cause a loss in power.

that sounds like my car....like to a T.....when it idles, its around 10 vacuum, which if im not mistaken is really low...it idles pretty rough, and there is a slight ping when idling. so now im pretty sure my timing is off, so what are the specs for timing? what should it be set at? i dont know where it is right now, but i think when i was working on it in class a few weeks ago someone messed with my cas, which would change timing if im correct. any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if its tonight because i can do my timing in class tomorrow. thanks in advance
