How do I check 5sp transmission fluid level?

Is there a way to just check the Transmission fluid level or do you have to drain and refill?

I have a 5 speed in a S13 ( i think the trans are the same in S14?)

driver side of a transmission has a square nut, open it and stick your ______ (insert at your own freedom) and see if you can feel the fluid

So I just take off the square nut and fill it until it is all the way to that level? seems easy enough.

BTW...What is the fluid capacity. I might just change all the fluid
