i was changing my struts and i got a little problem. I was trying to remove the center bolt from the strut so i could put the triangular piece onto the new shocks but the bolt would not twist off because the strut would just move with it. there seems to be no place to hold on the strut because it is circular while im twisting the bolt.

how do i remove this center bolt on the shocks and spring????????

did you compress the spring? if you have, you can try a few things. #1. impact wrench #2. wrap a towel around the teeth of a wrench and make it bite down on the shaft.

if you are talking about the front struts, it's 100X easier to get that bolt off when the strut is still on the car and the car is resting on the ground (i.e. not jacked up)I broke the bolt loose while the car was on the ground, but left it on untill I got the whole strut assembly out. If you are doing the rear struts, there is a little lip at the top you can grasp with a pair of vice grips while someone else loosens the bolt with a wrench.

if you dont plan on re-using the struts, you could have someone grab the strut shaft with some vice grips while you break the bolt off.

The strut cylinder should have a flat spot where the threads stop to put a wrench on it to hold it.
