I'm pretty new to auto mechenical works. So far I have changed starter motor on my car...As days go by, I sense the rattling of the engine during idling is getting harshier. It's the time to change the engine mount.

How do I change the engine mount? I know I have to lift the engine up. But how hi do I lift it up? Do I have to disconnect it from transmission and all the pipes?

Have a FSM. What tools do I need for this job?

just disconnect the motor mounts and jack up the motor an inch or two. you want to use a block of wood on the jack under the oil pan. you do not have to disconnect the trans or anything.

Thanks for the reply.

When you tell me to disconnect the motor mount, you meant to unscrew it from the bottom side?

What motor mount do you recommand? Nismo? I want to go with something firmir than stock..

If feeling the motor is a concern of yours you certainly dont want to get a firmer mount

Are you saying that firmer mount will damage the engine? I'm not so sure.

Are Nismo ones firmer than stock ?

no I am saying if the reason your doing it is because you can feel the vibration of the engine in the car whn your sitting in it[which is what you said earlier] Then you dont want to install a firmer mount that will transmit engine vibration into the chassis of the car.

I would like to decrease the influence of the engine block mass on the inertia of the car while driving. Just I don't want firmer mount to damage the engine in long term.

the mounts are to dampen engine vibration so you dont feel it, as long as they arent broke it wont hurt the engine. but the harder they are the more you will feel the engine.

You should be able to get a 14mm box end angled wrench or a 14mm wobbly socket on it.

agreed, pb blaster is a wonderful thing. soak it and let it sit for a few mins, then give it hell. repeat until it breaks loose.

My PB tech: Spray it. Hit the mating surface of the bolt/nut to what ever it's bolted to with a cold chisle. Don't damage the hex part of the nut! just hit the skirt on the bottom of the nut. Spray again. Let it sit for 5 minites. This works very well. The vibration from the impacts on the nut help work the PB in deep.

A semi deep socket on an impact universal with a 12 inch extension and a LONG A$$ breaker bar are my weapons of choice for that nut.

To replace the engine mounts? No. You only need to jack the engine up a few inches to slip the old mounts out and the new ones in.
