go to the store and buy a timing light. start your engine and let it idle until its at normal operating temps(your heat gauge is in the middle). I'm assuming your idle is 700-750? if not, then turn engine off, disconnect throttle position sensor(tps), turn back on...rev a few times, let idle then go to side of the intake manifold near the firewall and you'll see a brown circle that can be turned by a philips head screwdriver(it will have a hose near it)..turn the screw till your idle is at 650-700, then turn car off and hook up the tps and start car again to make sure idle is 700-750, now to adjust timing..turn car off again..then unplug your tps and turn the car back on. rev the engine from 2000-3000 several times and then let it idle again. connect the neg of the timing light to the neg terminal on on the battery and positive to the positive ont he battery. if its an inductive timing light then hook the other clamp onto the first plug wire closest to the bumper. now aim the gun at the big crank pully and pull the trigger. you should see a little needle pointing at one of 6 marks on the pully. you want the needle to be even with the mark all the way to the right. if its not close then loosen the 2 bolts holding the distributer on and move it a little clockwise if the needle was to the right too much, and counter clockwise if it was to the left too much. check the timing with the light again, once its right then tighten the distributer back up. turn the car off and hook the Throttle position sensor back up and you're good to go. now go get a snack and word of advice is to use the search, theres an article on this iirc. hope i answered your question in enough detail, any ?'s just post em.

crappy cell phone pic of TPS....As far as the idle adjustment screw....(click for a really big version)kinda hard to get a good picture showing the location, but that is the passenger side of the block near the firewall... Easiest way to find it would probably be to look at the brake booster (big circular thing on the drivers side of the firewall) and follow the hose that comes off it and runs along the firewall....its the same hose you see coming down the middle of the picture, you can see the screw you turn right above the clip that holds the hose on.

Uh-oh is right. You shouldn't be messing with your timing if you don't know what you are doing. And from reading your few posts on here, you don't seem like you are ready.

Please invest in getting a Factory Service Manual and get someone who knows how to do this stuff help you out at first.

The steps Ken gave you are exactly how you adjust timing. If you don't know what most of that stuff does/is... you are in for a world of hurt when you blow up your engine doing something totally wrong.

Don't even get us started on this stage 3 tuning chip...

look down the front of your car at your crank pulley "the biggest one," then look slightly behind it for the pin. if you cant see the timing marks, theyre probably facing away from you on the pulley.

He's talking about Devious' stage 3 NA ka24e tune from the ECCS forums. Contrary to popular belief (here), it's a legitimate tune that should realize some pretty solid gains.

You asked about this on those forums and people told you to buy an FSM, which you DEFINITELY SHOULD before you start messing with ANYTHING.

ohhh ok, yeah devious is a smart guy...I was just cringing thinking it was like one of those in-line diodes from the maf that just lean the mixture out by slightly modifying the signal...

carry on
