OK, i would really appreciate a detailed description of how to advance the timing on my 05 altima 3.5, including how far I can advance it, what differant degrees of advance would give me, any other mods i might want to do to compensate for the advancement, and just plain old how to do it... and any negative side effects (mpg maybe?) shpanks...

You would either need to be able to access the ECU's program or add some sort of a timing control module. Most if not all newer cars have done away with distributors and timing changes aren't as easy as adjusting the distributor cap anymore.

You can't advance it without a CONSULT or a reflash... just get a reflashed ECU from JWT or Technosquare.

In theory you can make better power with more timing advance, but you can't advance it too much or you will see detonation, you will start losing power, or both (or worse, as a combined result).

http://www.technosquareinc.com and fork out the $595 or $695 they want is by far the best way to do it. IIRC a few guys are running S-AFC 2's or V-AFC's to do it, but you have to be careful because the stock ECU is adaptive and will eventually dial out the compensation you're inducing, returning your changes to 0 effect.

The most a nissan tech can raise timing is +/- 2 degrees. Dont think the ecu will learn the and revert back as that wont make the apexi saf and vafc useless.Actually it cant do timing that I know of ,you can just adjust a/f mixture and it wont be learned out.

Initial Ignition adavance is just 1 of the 6 parameters that add or subtract numerically to create the final ignition timing. Degrees before top dead center.

Air temperature, fuel temperature, coolant temperature, Knock sensor counts, engine load [tps voltage] and rpm are added or/and subtracted to initial setting.

Changing initial will often just be negated by KS huperactivity.

Cool air, cool fuel, cool coolant create the highest chance of ignition advancement.
