How difficult is it to upgrade a non nav car to navigation?

Has anyone checked into what is needed to upgrade an 06 M to Navigation capable? Is there a module or something necessary to make it Nav capable? Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance

Mostly pretty darn tough to do the OEM version. Has a lot to do with the console size and electronics being different, etc.

You are better off getting an after-market solution! Some pretty nice ones available out there.

Many of the current aftermarket GPS units are far better than the Factory installed unit. They just won't look as good.....

Z,

My console and LCD screen are exactly the same as the Nav cars, at least that is what I suspect. All the features on the radio, phone, etc. are menu driven so i was under the assumption that i would just need the electronics module and accompaning firmware. I guess i am wrong.

Thanks

I looked into it and you are wrong. The screen on the non nav cars are smaller than the nav cars. The wiring is actually the hard part as it is a part of the main harness and not something you could just splice in.

WAY TOO HARD.

Better off going aftermarket.

Thanks Jade.... I don't need Nav but thought if they were the same I might be able to find what I need to make it capable.

Turst me I am in the same situation. I really wanted a car with Nav but the one I got came without it. I even tried to get my friend who works for the dealer to do it for me but they said it was way too crazy.

This is by far the best option i have seen.

I would likewise opt for a solution that is not integrated.

That way you can take it with you, it is easier to update and once you sell the car or the car is damaged, your stuff can be removed and the additional cost of the nav is not wasted with the car.

Had I known how ill-impressed I am with it, I would have searched harder for an '04 without nav. I suppose later years had a better nav setup? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it & it's not terrible, just old now....
