I bought a junkyard LF hub for my 92 Q45 as a quick and dirty way to replace a noisy wheel bearing on a 160k mile car that may not last many more years. The manual says to use a press tool to remove both tie rod and lower ball joint. I'd have to borrow or buy such a tool. Would a fork and hammer do the job here?

Is there anything particularly difficult or non-obvious in this job? Is there any risk of damaging parts? The shop wants $150 for the swap but I normally do small jobs myself.

I know I've done the tie rod end... not sure on the lower ball joint. Keep in mind that places like Autozone and Advance Auto have loaner tools that are usually pretty good quality - since they don't want them breaking in use and injuring you.

I would take particular care with any of the ABS sensors you have to remove during the process.
