I'm hooking it up to a single amp. The instuctions tell me to run the power into a distrobution block and run one to the cap and the other to the amp. I just want to run it to the cap and then to the amp. I don't want to use a distobution block. Is there anything wrong with the way I want to hook it up? I don't see why I can't.Thanks!

Yeah that's fine. They just want you to buy a distribution block so they can make more money.

+1Just make sure the bolt that screws down is long enough to accept two cable connectors. I used to have some that were very thick...actually I still do. Two of them together possible could have been too thick for some of the cap bolts out there.

I got that covered. I went all out and bought some JL audio ring terminals that are quite thin. Must be why they were 3 bucks a piece.

Excellent! Mine were around 15.00 i think. Yeah I was young so I overpaid...Live and learn. I'd have to find them, but they were around 1/4" thick! Ridiculous, really.

Quick question, why are you installing a cap?

It's on my bros truck. I hope that it will keep from beating up on the alternator so much. At the very least it will filter noise. He's only pushing 300RMS to one 12, but his lights dim like a sum *****

What size wire are you running? That usually more of a problem with wiring that's too small or a charging system that's just not up to par.

The wires are fine for that. The cap should help quite a bit. As the others have mentioned, wiring it up that way is fine. Most people that I know tend to do it that way, including me. The only people that have a distribution block have more than one amp to supply.

Thanks everyone! Installation went well. Problem is now that the deck won't recongnize the amp. Since I disconnected the battery everything got reset. It's a kenwood with front, rear, and sub outs. the deck only lets me play with the front and rear, it doesn't even give me an option to play with the sub out. Weird. I'll have look into the deck functions further.

edit: i mean the deck will only let me play with the front and rear speaker HPFs. It doesn't even recongnize a LPF as it did before I disconnected the battery

I dont know about Kenwoods, but some decks have a "Sub" setting that you need to turn on to be able to tweak that kind of stuff. Even if you cant set it on your deck you should still be able to do it on your amp.

So I figured out how to turn on the sub. I was jammin some heavy bass and it didn't completely cut out, but the sub didn't play, only for a second and it came back. The lights don't dim anymore and it sounds much cleaner, but I don't know why it just cut out for a second

It might have lost power for a second. Check all your connections and make sure you have a good clean ground. Its got to be on bare metal.

The wires are all good. I'm just gonna blame it on the CD for now, hopefully it won't happen again

I dont think you need a cap. in fact i think you're going to put more stress on the battery and alternator with the cap, since it now has to charge the cap also. Just make sure everything is grounded properly, including the neg wire from the battery, and have the right size gauge of wires. My .02 cents

*edit*i could be wrong, because the rest of the people in this thread didnt say the same thing and i dont really dabble in this field anymore and i was always a noob in it

+1 for JL Audio

Un fortunately the only JL I have is ring terminals. JL does rock though. Before my bro got this system (MTX 12 and D class amp). I let him borrow my 2 15 W0s in a sealed box with e class mono amp. It was putting out around 225rms and it sounded awesome! I told my bro he could by them from me cheap, but they took up to much space. He instantly missed them when he bought the MTX stuff.
