how did you get your bearings?

Main bearings, in this case. I droppped by the dealer and the only size they had was ".25", which in no way corresponds to the way one would pick bearing sizes using the numbers stamped on the crank and the block. The guy behind the counter mentioned that they only stock some bearings in the full range of grades; ironically KA24E bearings were one of them.

Those of you who replaced your main bearings, where did you get them and how did you size/order them? I need, #1-#5, sizes 2-2-2-2-3, so I'm probably stuck buying two sets if I can't get them individually?

At least this gave me time to finish painting and refitting the engine compartment...

O'Reilly's didn't stock them but they had them for me in a few hours, they should ask what grade/undersize, just tell them standard. Nice Federal Mogul bearings, much better than the Clevite 77's I ebay'd that turned out to be .25 also.

We don't have O'Reillys in Jersey but I'll try an Autozone/PepBoys/NAPA store and see if they have the same. Thanks.

Luck has been poor; none of the locals have been able to order them, let alone have them in stock. I'd really appreciate it if you could pick them up in your area. Drop me an email at [email protected] when you get a chance and I'll get you some cash.

Boost, where do you get your bearings? It seems to be that all our sources have the .25 O/S and the standards, no specific grades.

To be honest, I'd just get standard bearings, and then check your clearances. I SEROUSLY doubt you are going to have a problem. It's not like the Crank ever comes into contact with the bearing anyway...

Well I picked up a set of bearings off of ebay 'cause they were cheap, figuring if they didn't work someone was sourcing me another set from O'Reillys anyway. Turns out they're just fine; I'll keep the others as spares. Back on track, finally. Thanks everyone for the advice.

No prob. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Clevite Bearings are grooved to allow better flow to the rod bearings, ect as opposed to the stock units. I've got Clevits on the mains right now and stocks on the rods. I'm going to have my engine builder get me a set for the rods too...
