All my previous cars had been 2 seaters (65 chevy truck, karmanghia, porsche 924, Rx7, el camino) and I was currently driving around in this little tiny 86 MR2, and I was thinking, "Man I got to get a real car." So I wanted to get something big, ostentatious, V8 and automatic. Like a 89-90 560 SEC, or maybe a Cadillac Allante, or a 94 Impala super sport, something I could stretch out in. Then I saw my next door neighbors Q... A gray 90 and I thought it was kinda weird looking but I couldn't look away, I'm still not quite used to the shape. When he told me it had a 278 HP aluminum V8 I thought "This thing is a fire-breathing dragon" and I was right. I told him you got to let me drive this thing... he did. I slowly silently cruised the 3 blocks to the freeway entrance (I-5 san diego frwy) and as soon as I entered the onramp I mashed the peddle and this car just launched howling ferociously, almost violently, but effortlessly, onto the freeway. I piloted this magnificent beast across all lanes to the fast lane and thats when I noticed I was doing 125 and still pulling hard. What really impressed me was how well this huge brute stuck to the road like glue and handeled like a dream, and it was bone stock. I had to have one. About six months later I convinced my friends business partner, who had a clean gold 90 with burgundy interior, and only 85000 miles to sell. I picked it up for $6500 promptly put another $4000 into her and its the greatest car and I'm proud to own her, and I'll never go back.

And its my ticket to this great club.

Cheers

OK, here goes....

In 1989, I fell in LOVE with the nu Q. I had no job, no money, just gotten married, and was mowing lawns, to cover my rent. My wife was looking for work, and we had 4 crappy cars, a 1980 Eldorado (POS), a 1984 Mazda B2000 (no A/C), a 1973 Cutlass 442 (455 HO), and a 1980 Malibu (The Boo).

I wanted to walk into the Infiniti dealership, and tell the salesman "I already know about the clock"

I bought my first Nissan, in 1992 (1990 Maxima), then another one in 1994 (1992 Maxima SE, 5 speed- Awesome), then another one in 1995 (New Maxima SE, automatic-wish I had the '92 back). I bought a new 1995 Nissan XE V6 Extended cab pickup the same week, then a 1995 Altima for my mom (Not a great car). All Black, of course.

Nissan-good, Infiniti-better. For my wife's birthday(December 2000), I bought her a brand new 2000 I30t (Black), with every option available. I drove the 2000 Maxima, but couldn't get over the ugliness. At $32,000.00, it was a much better deal than the Nissan. Not like in 1995, where it was a $9,000.00 premium for the Infiniti. In 2000, it was about $2,000.00, and I got the dealership to come down $3,500.00 right off the bat. Of course, it took them 3 months to find a Black one with Black Leather (aparently a special order).

I drive 1000 miles a week for my job, now, and have been swapping used Hondas for my self over the past 3 years. Last March, another salesman at the office told me about his accident in his Q.

He ran over a brake drum, while going to the airport. It was a 1994 Q45, with 105,000 miles. The NADA on the car was $9,300.00, the damage was $9,000.00 (Delaership quote). Basically a dented oil pan, exhaust pipe, and a trashed transmission. Not a cosmetic scratch on the car.

Scott is meticulous about his cars. Leather care every 6 months, since new. Professional Cleaning. You know a salesman's car has to look good. Complete records, since 1997, when he bought it.

I made a deal with him. He got a new estimate for $7,000.00 from the same dealership. The insurance company gave him that, and I gave him $2,300.00 Rebuilt transmission, Oil Pan,Plugs, Brakes, Nitto Tires, 17"Wheels, STB, K & N Filtercharger, I have a BEAUTIFUL Q for $5,000.00

After I bought his car, he then went out and bought a 1998 Q. I like mine better.

I didn't sleep for a week. I drove the car for 2 weeks, before I realized the headrests were powered. Now, I can't wait to get behind the wheel. I have put 45,000 miles on the car in the last 11 months. Last month, while backing into a parking space, I was amazed that the drivers mirror tilted down, when I put the car in reverse!

The best upgrade in cars I have ever done! (And I have done a LOT!)

My next endeavor is the Tokiko Blues, and new Tension Rods.I am ruined, I can never go back. Infiniti for life! The I30t will be paid for in 2005, G35 Coupe for the Mrs.

Here's my story:

Back in '96, wife & I were looking to get something more mature. Decided to check out the Lexus ES300. Went to dealership in Omaha, NE to price used. They were more than we wanted to pay. Salesman suggested we look at a "90 Q just traded in by a farmer for new LS400. Said it never had seen rain, had 60K service with 58K on it. Wasn't to keen on the look 'cause it had gold lettering over silver paint. Never liked that combo much. Also had chrome factory rims. He brougt it in (mid Jan) for us to check out. When he opened the door & the seat & steering wheel slid back & up I was like WOW! I was only 25 at the time. Anyway, came back to test drive & couldn't believe how easy this land barge handled. I was doing 60 in a 35 and didn't know it. Dealer wanted $13K for it & we decided to lease. Didn't know I would fall in love or else I would've bought since I bought her at lease end. Car went with the wife in the divorce & I wouldn't rest 'til I found another. Found a '97 T about a year ago and was reunited with Infiniti.

There is one bright side of losing the '90. Wife & I remained friends & it'll be mine once she finishes grad school & can afford something else.

Courtney saw the G20t at the Boston Auto Show in 2000 and we had no intentions of buying a car, but she liked it more than the Jetta (which was our other choice). When her Saab finally died, the first place we stopped was the Infiniti dealership. She fell in love after one test drive, and the rest is history.

We actually got a good deal because they did not have the color we wanted (dark blue) with the interior we wanted (black). so we "settled" for black/black with the winter package and got the winter package for free plus another $1000 off.

Well, when I was 16 (5 years ago) my parents gave me their 1988 nissan sentra. I was rear-ended three times, and it kept ticking, with a rope holding the rear trunklid down. Finally, the alternator died and said goodbye to it. So I picked up a 1988 Mazda 929, 3.0L V6, exceptionally comfortable. Beat the hell out of it and wrecked it.

I then purchased a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300E. That may have been the most boring and uninspiring purchase I ever made.

Purchased a Ford Explorer because I was an idiot. Traded it in for a 95 Mazda 626. Adored it, loved it, drove the hell out of it across the country. Sold that.

Finally, mom bought me a 1993 Honda Accord, mint, mechanically and physically perfect... but I hated how it drove. It was slow, the speed limiter kicked in at 112mph, and it was fairly uncomfortable across the country.

Last month, I sold it and picked up this 92 Q with 169k from a teacher, and I LOVE IT! The best car I have ever owned. Had my dad, a Mercedes Benz and Honda owner/enthusiast take it for a ride, and said it drove better than anything he had ever owned.

Owned 2 280ZX in college. Fun and chic magnets. Than got an Acura Legend outta college. Had seen Q45s...just thought Japan cool Caddy. In '97 I drove "90 q w/127K for the hell of it because only $9500. Had cosmetic probs, etc. Launched it to 90 MPH in 2nd and said holy ^&%*! This family sedan would spank my Legend! Got back to dealer and immed popped hood and saw 278hp 292 ft lbs trq @4000rpm. Then said to myself..I dont want this car! I am going to save for a while and buy a newer one with less miles. in '98 i bought nice '93 with only 49K miles. Drove (the sh^% out of) that to 107K and sold in jan '03 because of timing guide scare. Now have purple '95t...just bought may 5, '03. READY FOR MODIFICATIONS!

In college I bought two 300ZXs both in rough shape - one with a perfect drive train and enough rust to hold the front wheels in place and a beautiful red one that my grandma could out run. Together they because my Z. I was the first to break the USA tradition in my family and I loved it. Two years later I sold the dream for $1600 and got married.

Four years later I'm returning from living in Italy - I'm coming back by way of Kansas - my inlaws home town. The first thing anyone needs to do when they move to the USA is buy a car, and I was determined to own a Maxima. HA.

Anyone who has ever car shopped in Rural Kansas can attest - most people can pronounce Nissan and a few have seen them, but they are hard to find on the autolots. Days of searching the internet and I came across exactly what I wanted - white 95 manual maxima. Unfornately someone else saw the same ad and during my 2 hour drive to Lawerence he bought it. Rats!

Distressed I drove on south to Amy's Uncles' place in micro-town kansas. And low and behold the local paper carried an ad for a Q45. I had never heard of that, but did some internet research. I learned:

1. It's a tank2. It likes the gas, and it likes the expensive stuff to boot3. It was the best Nissan made.4. It had a tragic flaw called timing guides.

Two test drives later and I was was in shock.

My Volkswagen polo in Italy got 45 MPG (no joke) but it had a 74 HP engine and a top speed of 105 mph (on level ground, she could sense the slightest incline a mile away)

This Q was like an angry wildabeast on the road. All the family tisked and shook thier heads but I would not be disuaded. The Q had to be mine.

Two weeks later I replaced the timing guides and learned my Q also has a dark side. She's got expensive taste and wants lots of attention.

Now I've got to sell her and it's tearing me apart. There's a baby coming and I need to be spending that $200 a month on diapers and formula instead of premium unleaded and parts shipped from Arizona. Sigh. http://www.q4sale.com

My parents owned the 95Q since 97. The car was 2 years old, had 19K miles and was in showroom condition. I believe they paid $30,000 for it.

Last month, my brothers and I chipped in to get them a Mercedes ML350 Inspiration Package for their 60th birthday because they wanted something with AWD and they've always wanted a Mercedes.

They gave the Q to me because my brothers live in London.

The car was repainted 3 years ago for $4500 but since then the car has been keyed and the bumpers look like they've been to hell and back.

Mechanically, the car is great.

Well... ever since I got my licsense 1.5 years ago... I've been having to coordinate where I'm going with my mom so we can figure out who needs the car and when, etc. So for the past year my uncle had been looking for a car for me(he lives in Dallas and can see more than me in the middle of nowhere). First he wanted to get me a Jeep, then a Truck, the my aunts brand new VW Passat(i wouldn't of minded that;) ), and then in November he decided on an Infiniti. He was gonna go for an I30 cause my aunt originally had one and liked it lots. He kept saying that he only needed a few more days and he'd have it. That kept going on until February when he bought a '94 Q45(I'm going to pay him back for it when I turn 18). I was superhappy. But then the problem was getting the car to me. I went down there during my spring break(mid-april) and drove it around and was in love. I was trying to convince my uncle to get it back any time soon cause I needed it for Prom which was just two or three weeks away. Finally... 3 nights before Prom it showed up at my house:) Been lovin it and takin care of it in the almost 2 weeks it's been here.

After I graduate from college and get a decent job I plan on buying maybe a '02 Q cause by then it'll be in my price range:)

A couple years ago I had to go to my prom in a 96 Caprice. It was comfy enough for the four of us, but it felt like being in a taxi cab.

An Impala SS would have been nice though. :)

Well I feel rather ashamed not having posted in over 4 months. Hiya Fred! I Actually had my first experiance when I was 20 years old and I got a late graduation gift from my parents. I got a used Maxima GXE. It was kinda neat with the buttons on the outside of the drivers door to lock and unlock everything. It got me back and forth to work and to and from college when I would come up to see my parents in Monterey Ca from San Diego. Well all that driving must have really done it's job. I ended up trading it in for a Nissan altima in '96. It was neat it was used and it was about 3 years old at te time too! I liked the fact that it had this really neat Heads up display that you could see in the lower drivers side window corner. It also had leather, but it ws cushy. Drove like a little mini luxury car. My friend had the GXE and I had the GLE, but I noticed hers had a lot more power. I had always admired the Q ship, even back in 1990. I had never seen a car without a grill before. Those back head rests. Hmmmm how I had wanted one. My mother was deadset against it. Actually said it was the ugliest car she had ever seen. Now Keep in mind everyone that she was driving a 1995 Mazda 929. Ha! Not a bad car, but it too would son see it's demise!. Well To make a long story short, i found it on Ebay. It was only about 6,000. but when I got it I had a new engine dropped in it and a new transmission from Attarco In San Jose. They ran Great. Then I mae that trek from Ca to OK and whilst living here, I destroyed the right rear axle and had to get it repaired. So instead, I found the most beautiful 1993 Q45 Black with Black leather which was rare for the year. I have had it since. Yeah I looked at the new M45, but I still think that the 1989-1995 Q's should be in a museum for it's beauty. And yes even I remember thos commercials for the early Q it was Dave brubeck playing a jazz song and it fit the commercials perfectly.

My first post on a new forum. *cackles evilly*

My five year lease on my 1998 Infiniti Q45 is about up. I just have two more months left. It's been a great car and I will miss it.

In August of 1998, the 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII I had been driving was getting a little long in the tooth. It had over 100k miles on it and I was beginning to have some minor problems with it. I was also terrified of the monstrous depreciation Lincolns were taking at the time (although as it turns out, Infiniti was only marginally better). I actually went to Midway Infiniti in Phoenix to look and drive a QX4, but I was less than titillated with the anemic 170 horse 6 cylinder engine to pull around that meaty truck platform. The salesman then suggested I drive the Q45.

Now, understand I was only 31 years old at the time and frankly I thought only rich people drove Q45s. I had always loved the car but I thought it was well out of my price range. I protested a bit but the salesman winked at me and said you would be surprised at what we can do. I took the Q45 out on the freeway and opened up the warp engines (I am a huge Star Trek fan so bear with me here). As Scotty began buzzing me from engineering, worried about his "wee bairns," I looked down and noticed I was flying down I-17 at over 100 mph WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT. It was then that $hit- eating grin spread across my face and I realized this was the car for me.

Eight long hours of negotiating combat later, and I was the owner of a brand new Expresso-colored Q45 with factory chrome wheels. Better yet, I got it for almost $12,000 off sticker (I paid $37k and change for a car that stickered at over $48k). Absorbing some of the deficiency from the hot rod Lincoln I was driving, my lease payments worked out to $660 a month for five years.

This car has served me well and it has been a real trooper. I now have over 95k miles on it and yet it has never been in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance. A sleeper ship if there ever was one (i.e. a wolf in sheep's clothing), it is great for ambushing unsuspecting drivers on freeway onramps or in other situations where the other driver thinks I'm a geezer.

I will slap up photos in another post. :)

I drove it, I bought it. Nothing compared to the feel of a 111k mile, 8 year old Infiniti. New rental cars seemed like crap in comparison. Foolish me, a 92Q45 for half the price of a Lexus, 2/3 the price of a newer Camry or Accord, how could I go wrong ? Having no idea of the complexities or cost of owning this beast I bought it thinking what could go wrong with the top of the line Nissan with a new transmission, to boot ? Besides, a Camry or Maxima (forget the Accord) didn't seem like much after driving this magnificent beast ! Well, aside from having to deal with the timing chain situation, I have had no regrets whatsoever. This is a car that is worth maintaining ! I've owned it for 3 years, I hope it lasts forever, I don't know what I would replace it with.

It all started a long time ago with crappy commercials that came out where you saw ocean waves crashing and then the word Infiniti. Didnt know what the heck they were trying to advertise. Shortly after my Dad and I were driving and spotted this awesome looking car bearing the name Infiniti on the back. In a great Father and Son moment we looked at each other and smiled like children. Soon after my Father went and purchased a 91 for my mother. I can still remember to this day the pain on my face from smiling so hard at the unbelievable performance that the car had. That car was great, so great in fact that we bought another one in 1995. When that one was donewe got another one in 1998. All this to say that I have been an infiniti lover from the get-go. I remeber telling my folks one day I will own one too.

Well that day came about a year ago. A good friend of mine had a 93 with traction control and black emerald in color. The mention of it possibly being for sale was like music to my ears. Then came the price. Only $3,000 I instantly told him yes sight unseen. On the day I picked it up I was as happy as a little kid. To this day it is still a great car. It runs great and with the mods that I have done to it, it performs even better. Everytime I drive it, I just am in shock that a car that is this heavy and has four doors can move and hanle the way it do.

I had just settled with a ditzy, cell-phone wielding blonde's insurance co. (need I say- 'after she hit me?') and had been shopping for months for and upgrade on my deceased 83 Volvo 240 turbo (ugly as sin but ran balls out and handled suprisingly well!). Went to a used car tent sale here in San Diego ready to beat back evil sales people w/ a louisville slugger. They had hundreds of cars there and I was looking for an I30, Avalon, Maxima, Lincoln LS or V6 Accord. After several test drives and careful consideration of prices I was getting bummed. Paying $18 - 20K for a Honda (or any front wheel drive car) just didn't appeal to me but I was resigning myself to that fate. Then, on the last walk around I saw this black behemoth sitting in the corner. I had looked past it previously and it seemed everyone else was too intimidated by it's luxury image to be caught looking at it by a salesman. It was a pristine, black 98 Q45. I sat inside of it and didn't really know what to make of it. I was never a 'luxury gadgets' ind of guy. Is this an old folks car? Said what the hell and when the sales guy came over, I said 'I wanna take her for a spin.' The rest is history. The subtle growl from the V-8 and the way she kept her manners but still got down to a little boogie when I punched it halfway thru a corner were the clinchers. A year later I am still ecstatic. A little wary of the cost of maintenance, to be sure, but the overall package- the size, style, power and reliablilty- make it the perfect car for me and I basically stumbled upon it. What a secret! So, this is my first Infiniti but likely not my last!

My old car (91 Lex) blew its engine so I was searching for a new car. My dad happened to find the G20 based on its reliability in the consumer guide books (he's all about reliability & not looks) so I was reluctant to check out what he found. I needed a car really bad so I decided to go check it out and it turned out to be a G20. Loved it when I first seen it, except it had plenty of paint chips and was beige (which I dont like) so I passed on it but was set on a G20. Found a great deal in Sacramento off Autotrader, went to go check it out and a week later had a 99 Pearl White Infiniti G20 with only 17k miles. This was in November, so very low mileage. Love the car since...

The newer ones (P11) are in the same category as the older one. Here's some info on the suspension for anyone who's interested: http://www.se-r.net/about/g20/scc/oct98/tb.html

Well since this thread is going...

I actually went out to just look at a few cars and get some test drives in. I was bored and nothing better to do. So, I hop on down to the Mercedes lot and then head over to Lexus. I was planning on wiaitng to do BMW until the end, becuase I was pretty sure I wanted a 330, since I couldn't afford the M3.

Well, the BMW dealerships in indy are also the Infiniti dealerships. So, I am there checking out the Beemers, I take the 330 for a ride, very nice, but I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. The dealer actually let me take out an M3, which I must say is the nicest car I have ever driven. He knew it wasn't in my price range, but it was a slow day. The SMG transmission is tremendous and the padling shifting is a blast. Anyway, I am getting ready to leave and he is like, I think you should check out the G35. There were only a couple of sedans on the lot, and I didn't want 4 doors, so I never went over to look at the Infiniti section, since all their cars were 4 doors.

He actually had been 2 coupes on the lot in the back. One was a red coupe, aero package, 6MT. That one however was already sold. The other was a red auto, with nav and everything else. So, I see the car, it is snowy and overcast and this car just leaps out at you when you first see it. Shiny bright red, looking quite kick *** sitting in the back of the lot. They hadn't yet set it out to sell, it had arrived the day before and the dealer manager had driven it. So, he asks if I want to take it out, and I of course obliged. I sit down in the car, and I know that I want this car, we take it out and drive it a bit, and I know even more that I want this car.

We get back to the dealership and he asks what I think, which of course wasn't necessary, he already knew. He go inside and asks if I have any questions. I tell him that i have one question, "When can I have the G35?" He says, right now. Story follows with me filling out the paperwork and calling my parents to come pick up my truck and drop it off at my apartment becuase I have just bought me a new car. My first brand new car. A red G35 sport coupe. How sweet of a ride it is.

Perhaps the best decision I have ever made. I hope everyone can someday feel the joy of owning such a wonderful car.

I got mine four months ago.

I was thinking of getting a 98+ integra (I hate ricers, but that is a nice car for the price. And i hate the back ends with the yellow on them (the integras of the same gen before 98) but i realized i could get more for my money.

I went to Autotrader, had just seen that the G35 was the car of the year, thought well let's check this company out. Found an I30t nearby, test drove it, and on top of the stuff that it came with, the guy who was selling it had put nice weather-proof mats in, tint, and some other things.

For 10k, the road ended there. I now drive the "mafia sedan" as it's known around here.

In 1993, I had decided at the age of 36 that I finally wanted a NEW car....(it would be for the wife...I had a 72 Mercedes with a 4.5 that I loved).

I decided the car to get was the Eagle Vision TSI... drove it, liked it...but something wasn't quite there.... then they wouldn't budge on the price. So list or near it was pushing 24 or 25k.

I also really liked a new Cadillac Seville STS...but couldn't quite pull the punch on the price...I really did like that car, too

Anyway, I decided to drive into a Nissan lot and there were a couple of used Q's... I picked the black one (same color as the mercedes) and we drove it..... it only took a matter of minutes and my wife said that was it....

So at 42k with 10 months on the warranty, I bought it for 17,800 then spent 400 dollars to have them install a CD changer.

I took the car over in 1998 when she needed a taxi...she got the Expedition (first new car ever) , I got the Q...at about 103,000 miles. I sold the Mercedes to an attorney (still wish I had kept it).

Now have 156k on it..... I would probably sell it and buy a 94-96 if I could find one in good shape. The car does have a soul.
