I need to adjust my timing for my car is running like crap. It cuts out when I give it more then half throttle and I think around 4000-5000 RPM's. It's very slow too. I am guessing the only way I can check the timing is by removing the coil over #1 and putting a short spark plug wire from the coil to the plug and putting my timing light probe on it. Is there another easier methoid?

The other thing that may be contributing to my problem is running an Open O2 housing (No DP) I should have that fixed by tonight and hopfully my timing set and we will see how she runs.

OHH GOOD QUESTION, I HAVE JUST DONE IT BY EAR BUT I'LL LOOK IN THE ENGINE MANUAL TONIGHT AND FIND OUT FOR YOU.

look near the back where your ignitor chip is. might need to look under the center cover. theres a little wire that loops. mine was Black/Red. You can pull it out a bit and just hook your timing gun up to that. Might be hard to find but just know its there.

Get that hooked up, let it warm up. Unplug the TPS and shoot. Farthest notch to the left (should be orange or something) is TDC. Then adjust to 15BTDC (every notch to the right is 5 degrees BTDC). You can adjust it by moving the CAS on the front. Pretty sure you turn it clockwise to move the timing back.

If you need more help finding the loop let me know. ill take a pic.when i had mine at TDC it ran like total ****. also stalled and would bog like no other if I tried to give it throttle. Setting the timing fixed everything. So try this first, sounds like itll take care of your problems.

oh didnt read about your O2. yeah take care of that. youd be running rich without it. come to think about it thats prob whats causing it. the engine could be flooding or something. you should be able to smell it if you try to rev it up that high w/o the O2 hooked up

Thanks for the reply. I think the looped wire is white on mine but I will try it. As for the O2 housing it is hooked up and the sensor is hooked up to. There just isn't a DP on the housing. I also looked over my charge piping and found a loose clamp. I am not sure if it was leaking while under boost (would like to think it was)

Oh ya my engine is a series II so there is not ignighter chip. But I know at the ignition plug there is a white wire that loops.

that looped white wire is a 12v. not timing related at all

i had to use one of the wires on the coilpack to adjust my timing, even then i dont think its correct.

one of the wires on the coil pack will work, thats what we use when we dyno cars that have coil packs and we dont know where the ignition loop is. You will know when you hook up your timing light if its working cuz it will be totally random flashing or on a notch in the crank pulley. Why do you need to unplug the TPS though, I have never heard of that before

I tried the loop methiod and My timing was late. By adjusting it to the end of the crank sensors travel it showed just over 15/BTDC maybe 16. The car runs 300% better!!! What a difference timing makes!

Did that fix all of your problems?

Why do you need to unplug the TPS? Shouldn't there be a jumper somewhere to put the engine into base timing mode? Maybe a screw on the ecu? I hope that's the correct way..

My car is running great now! It's pretty dam fast! I know about the diagnostic conector on my motor. I wired it up so I could use it to check codes. And since there are 3 communication wires I wired them up to incase I can find a way to get streaming data from my ecu. You may be right about putting the ECU into base timing with that conectors but I think the TPS methoid is easer since I was aready under the hood.

So right now my car is running stock boost....After a week or so I would like to turn it up to 10 psi. Is there anything I should be concerned about when I do that?

Not yet. The car is really fun as is. I am guessing at 10 psi I will be running very rich. Looks like an AFC is in my future.

I had to clean my tailpipe at least once a week, but I still got to go a whole week in between fillups, even with alot of playtime in between. I drove it daily to work also.
