I own a 2007 G35X with the technology package. I bought it used almost two years ago. I have never used or subscribed to any of the XM or Sirius packages. (I am wired for both thanks to the original owner.)

Tonight I was driving home and saw a highway sign indicating an accident had occurred a few exits ahead. I used the nav to set my destination to "home" in the event that I needed to get off the highway before my exit.

I noticed a yellow hazard diamond with an exclamation point on the map at the site of the accident.

How did my car know about the traffic alert?

Kewl for you!

It's possible that there may be some sort of promotion going on or could even be a simple error. Either way, enjoy and don't alert them to it until it suddenly dissapears!

I get that on my Garmin. Not only does it know about traffic but it also knows the speed limit.
I find it amazing that if the speed limit changes from 45 to 55 the Garmin displays it within a few seconds. It also displays my speed.

My Garmin doesn't always have the speed limits correct even after I updated it.

I got an email from XM saying that they are giving me a free trial of NavTraffic for the next couple weeks. Guess everyone gets it. Only problem is that I have no idea how to use it.

A free trial of XM traffic would seem to be the answer, then.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'll have to take the wife's car for a little ride then and see how it works. :)

Yeah, there is a trial going on. I have it and it is useful quite a bit of the time here in the Dallas area. It can help you avoid an accident scene unless it is a brand new one, of course. It also gives you traffic flow conditions on major interstates by highlighting the roads in question in different colors. Green is good, red is bad and orange/yellow means get your clutch foot ready. Ha!

I believe there is a preview going on right now with about 50 stations.

I was just thinking about this since I just past 1-month ownership. Not interested in the radio, just the traffic and weather. My ipod has all the tunes I need.

i looked it up last night on the website, you tune to channel zero and itll give you your xm radio serial number

xm traffic is 9.99/mo by it self
xm weather is 9.99/mo by it self

i didnt see an xm traffice & weather package...

but there was xm radio + xm traffic +xm weather for 19.99/mo... well thats all the listed on their website, probably either have to call them for just the traffic and weather package which should be under 19.99/mo if it exist, or your best bet is to pay for all three... like you id probably barley listen to the xm radio so i dont think its worth getting... :yesnod unless they only package them together

I bought the full XM package (not including Sirius) when I purchased my 2009. Traffic Alert is part of that pakage. I do not remember what the total 3 year cost was - BTW always purchase it by 1, 2, or 3 years package. It saves money.

It has a screen that shows all the accident and road construction problems in a wide circle of where you have and also pops up the warning icons and gives you warning messages if the problem is on your way.
