Hello all!

While driving my z to work today, I was wondering how this solar orange zed would look with the windows tinted.

I have never had windows tinted on any car that I have owned.I have a few questions. 1) How dark should I go, what will look good with the orange.2) How much does this cost? 3) Should I tint the tail lights too?

I'm planning on getting some new wheel too. What do you think of these?or these

Anyone know what wheels these are? Where can I get them.

Thanks in advance!

well i used to do my own tint and 1st off find out what the legal limit is in your area (if u care i never did) i always went 5% which is almost limo... since i installed it i didnt care if the cops pulled it off cause i had my own rolls and just put it back on when id go home. The only thing bout goin reall dark is when ur tryin to reverse at night. Every now and then i would have to roll down my window so i could see clearly. Most good tints are bout 15-20%, this is semi dark but not super dark. It's good enough to keep some sun out and looks good. Usually its between 100-200 bucks depending on their warranty and how well known they are for it. Id ask around and see who does a good job. Things to look for in a bad tint are bubbles in the window tint or the edges rolling up... i think tint on any car looks good thought.... as for the tails thats totally personal pref., i was thinkin of doin it but if i did tails i would want to do heads to and idk how good that would look...

as for the rims those are SEXXY!! i love volk and im goin to order the black and silve gtf's in bout a week... i think those are the te37? look at the time attack te37 on that orange i think those would look great...

Find out about your local laws, IIRC California doesn't allow tint on the front windows. That being said lots of people have it and get away with it.

First, price depends on type of tint, and area. I know up in the mid-west and north west, its a lot more expensive than in sunny places like so cal and down where I'm from. The type of tint depends on metallic, ceramic, and non metallic. Metallic will hold out a lot of heat, but has metal particles suspended in the film, making it hard for cellphone signals and GPS signals to read sometimes. Non-metallic doesn't repel as much heat, but no signal interference and is cheap. Ceramic is top of the line. It repels a lot of heat and doesn't have signal interference. I got Formula 1 pinnacle ceramic done by a nation wide reputable shop with 35% front and 15% rear, rear quarter, and rear windshield done for $253.47. I got non metallic on my 00 Camaro at 15% all the way around for about $120.00.

Second, I'd go with a mild tint on the front windows since it can be kind of hard to see at night, I had 15% on my old car and it got kinda difficult when it was really dark outside IE no lights. I'd think 15 - 20% would be my choice on a Z, maybe 35% or 40% if you're worried about the po-po's.

Third, make sure the place you go to is on the up and up. Ask if you can see car's they're working on, ask about warranties, that sort of thing.

Also just incase you don't know, you can't roll your windows down for a week (I kept getting told 3 - 4 days but I like to play it safe) and you can't clean it with ammonia based cleaners like Windex. You have to use a tint safe cleaner like 20/20 glass cleaner by eagle one, or any other brand so long as it is tint safe.

Last, it's not tint that is put over taillights or headlights, it's a vinyl overlay. The only places I've heard selling them are BlueBatmobile, and Lamin-x. Vinyl will last a lot longer since it's made to be exposed to the elements and what not, thought it's applied just like vinyl.

Also, those Volks are sexy as hell, I want a set for my car. But at that price, I think I would cry for a week straight if one got some curb rash....or if it was looked at wrong.... But yes, those rims are FTMFW!

Here's what my tint looks like with direct sunlight coming in the windshield:

20% all around. I have tinted the windows on all of my cars and every time I opted to go with a lighter tint for legal purposes I ended up not liking it and putting on the darker tint anyways.

Go as dark as you can legal probably 20% all around unless they make you put 50% in the front in your state.

You can tint the windshield in California in a strip across the top but no more than 4 inches from the top of the windshield

You got a thing against Brits dude?

Just for refference the letter Z is known as "zed" everywhere but here. Specially in Austrailia and New Zealand.

Its been an affectionate name for the Z for quite some time in all of Europe, New Zealand and yes GB.

Call it a Zed if you want. I do!

Mine is 15% and I would def recommend it! Its just the right shade of dark during the day and not too dark at night.

how strict are your cops? here the legal limit is 30% driver and passanger doors, 20% ont he rest and the windshield cna only come down 7 inches

your local tint shop will know whats legal in your area

I did get a ticket for illeagle window tint (yes it is illeagle) but the judge threw it out, the take thsi though traffic court and with the number of cases they have goign through there the judge just wasn't interested in window tint

Find out whats legal in cali. I like dark tint though. You should be able to put your face up to the glass, and you'll feel your eyes get blurry, lose vision, and almost get sucked into the vehicle. Thats how dark it should be. So dark it absorbs light to the point where it goes beyond visible spectrum and begins to absorb solid matter. So dark you could shade yourself from a shuttle launch from 25 feet away.

California window tint law.

As some have said, how dark is a personal preference. Some of your decision should depend on local laws (if you choose to follow them) and some will depend on your comfort level while driving at night.

I am a personal fan of the Huber Optik line.

35% tint should provide enough privacy, especially with the Z's small greenhouse. Sure, the rear window is big (area wise) but there isn't much glass on the sides. The trick is how much can you do without drawing too much attention to you?

You could do 70% on the front windows, 35% on the quarter and rear window and at the top i=of the windshield and you should be just fine. The windows already come with a 3-5% tint built into them, so when done, there will be less light transmitted than what the tint says.

I also like LLumar films.
