hi everyone...i have an s14 with sr20det m/t...today i went to a drag day with some friends...i am on 1.3 bar with the stock turbo anyway, a friend of mine wanted to try race with my car...he ran 1st, then second, and on third the shift lever poped back to neutral and the 3rd gear broke...i can't get it itno 4th either (must be something with the synchro...)

my question is, how the hell can someone brake an sr gear with the stock turbo?on 1.3 it's max 260HP, those trannies are ment to deal with much more power!

and another Q...where can i get the 3rd gear and synchro?

thanks,Tom

#1 you shouldn't be doing 1.3bar on a stock turbo (even dumber if you're using stock fuel injectors)#2. he musta done something real stupid to bust up 3.#3. new gear from transmission shop or dealership.

breaking gears isn't a matter of how much power someone is pushing in this situation. you can break anything by being too rough with it, and drag racing is very rough on a drivetrain. Rough shifting, or improper shifting which was probably the case here, broke the gear. Your best bet is to take it a shop and have them fix it. Of course, I don't know how abundant transmission shops are in israel.

1. i'm not doing 1/3 all the time, only on special ocasions, and i'm using haltech e11 ems and working on 70% duty cycle and 12:1 a/f ratio, so the injectors are more then fine for that...2. according to what he told me, he shifted to third, and in the middle of the gear the shifter poped out and the gear broke...3. i am one of 3 m/t silvias in israel, so i don't really think i could find a new gear it israel, i need a reference to a U.S shop....

btwi'm using the HKS twin plate clutch kit, can it be related to that?

well I know they dont have Nissan Dealers really in Israel (been all over there).

Sorry to hear about the situation. Best bet is to order something online. try calling Joe Black [email protected]

I beleive he works for http://www.infinitiofscottsdale.com He can usually get pretty good prices.

usually the weak link in your drivetrain is your clutch. if there's too much power running through your drivetrain, your clutch will slip instead of sending that power to the trans, diff, and axles. when you upgrade your clutch, that weak point goes away; when you run too much power through it, something else (and usually more serious) will break. the solution: run a clutch that doesn't have that much holding power, or strengthen everything else in the drivetrain.

either way, good luck!
