So I swapped a sr s13 blacktop with a t28 into my car (95 s14) recently came with the new wiring harness and all that good stuff. Ever since I installed it it runs smooth and boosts full but kind of lags a bit. I can smell in the exhaust that its running pretty lean but only in low rpm/non-boost conditions.

So I go to check my ecu for codes. I have no check engine light or anything. Aaaaand I don't have a ob1 scanner.

When I go to retrieve the codes from the back of the ecu the led light does not blink. The led turns on but doesn't blink any codes.

Is my ecu shot? Maybe a ground? Anyone have any tips for me?

if your ecu was fried it most likely would not run the car

I was thinking It might have been an ecu because I had a power and ground wire crossed at the fuse box and kept popping the fuse that powers all the interior power.
Leading me to believe that the improper ground might have sent too much current to my ecu and possibly fried it. I popped the fuse probably 3 times in a row until I figured out the wiring issue

” shorting” doesn't happen when a ground grounds, it happens when a power grounds out causing too much amps to run through that wire which is what causes a xx amp fuse to pop. An ecu usually only fries when power is sent through a low voltage curcuit or power and grounds touching, usually from freyed or improper wiring.

I'm having the exact same issue with my ECU. I turn the knob clockwise all the way, but it won't blink.

I just have a red light constantly on. Doesn't seem to want to go into diagnostics mode.

Did you replace the ECU, or was it some kind of ground/power issue?

Thanks,
Jason

Sniff the ECU at the hole for the knob - if it's burnt, you will probably smell a burnt / melted plastic odor. You can also pop the covers off and do a visual inspection - burnt / melted areas are usually easy to see especially by the big plug lugs.

only way that I know of, is to open it up and to look for a blown trace inside of the ecu on the board.

Like joshy said. Open her up and examine closely. That's how i figured mine was fired.
