I have been working on gutting my car for the last couple of days, but I found that there is a SH load of tar under all the carpet and seats. It is as hard as a freakin rock, I mean, I can barely scrape ot with a screw driver. I was wanting to get some ideas on how I can go about removing this stuff.

Thnx.

So with the dry ice, all I would have to do is put some on the tar and let it sit for a minute and then start chiseling?

At my job, we have a dry ice blaster. It's pretty much like a sandblaster that sprays dry ice instead of sand. A lot less messy than sandblasting b/c all the dry ice just evaporates. You have to be careful though, if you have the ice chunks coming out too big, it will take paint off. I'm sure there's somewhere you could rent one from, you would just need electricity and compressed air to run it.

I used a propane torch and a metal scraper. Took about an hour to do my trunk. Just heat up the goo for a sec, then scrape. You can only get a few inches at a time, but it comes off like butter when hot (you can pull it off in sheets when you get the edges loose)

I finished doing the fc, and while a butane torch worked ok, the best and fastest way was using an air chisel gun. I did not want to go buy dry ice, so I worked w/what I had. If using dry ice, brake it into lkttle pieces and spread all over the area to be removed and wait 15 mins.

To tell you the truth, my method was nice:

I removed trunk, storage bin, front seats and firewall tar. In other words, all of it.

when i gutted my FC i used dry ice for a little while, but it got to be to long of a process and just went after it with a few large screwdrives and hammers and a couple of child laborers (aka my friends little brothers) worked out really nicely.

oh btw, i went to weigh the tar that i took out of the RX7 (and some of it, maybe 1/4 of it, was thrown away before hand on accident) but it ended up weighing about 20 lbs....

Im not sure where you live, but Publix grocery stores sell it. If you dont have a Publix or the Wal-Mart near you doesnt sell it then try going to the grocery stores near you.

Thinks for all of the advice I really appreciate it. I am going to start on that first thing in the morning. I think I will use a combination ofeach of your methods...dryice, chisel, scraper, torch and some "child labor" lol. Ill let ya'll know how it goes. THNX
