If you're not up on your maintenance then change out your spark plugs, air filter and the usual. If all of that is good then you might want to look into another vehicle. I haven't driven the VQ30 but I understand the that difference between that and the 3.5 is huge.finder89 wrote:i got a 89 pathfinder that needs more power bad it feels like i got a 100 hp

dang no kidding the VQ35de is pushing 250hp. how hard do you think it would be to swap in to a 89 pathfinder. do you think i could keep my same transmission or have to change everythingsicwitit wrote:the 3.5 VQ35DE was available from 99.5-2004 Pathfinder
I thought it only became available in the 2001 model year? Can someone confirm this?sicwitit wrote:the 3.5 VQ35DE was available from 99.5-2004 Pathfinder
Read through the entire link. Very interesting.Makes me wonder if some of the non-engine mods could be done to a 2001-2004 model truck.
yes i ment VG30i not VQ my bad. i just need something with more low end tq hills just suck a** with the vg30carnal_c30 wrote:the WD21 Pathfinders have a VG30 not a VQ30, they are completely different motorsthe 2001+ R50s have a VQ35DE motor and the 96-2000 R50s have a VG33E motor
easiest to thing about in a WD21 would probably be a VG33E or maybe a VG33ER swap (S/C Xterra/Frontier)
ok you no it would just be nice if it didnt take any mager work like moving the motor mounts or cutting anythingsicwitit wrote:I have a friend in Seattle that was done the swap. according to him, its not to hard, he has a 94 pathy, swapped in a S/C frontier engine, WD21 manual transmission bolted up to the VG33 just fine. he's lifted 5" and runs 33'' tires, I've seen him do a burn out with them too. I don't really keep in touch with him though so I can't get too much more info. unless I start remembering forgoten things?
W O T wrote:No motor swaps just "drop right in", theres always wiring, diagnostic, drive shaft, engine placement trouble when going to another body. Making all the electronics work again, a/c, heater lines....
Do research before buying anything is all I can say
yeah dont worry about it. i just dont have a lot of time for a project engine swap like you said i need it to be a weekend job. wiring is no problem for me its having to change out the bellhousing making new motor mounts that i just wouldnt like to do. am just trying to find the right engine to do it?sicwitit wrote:(bitting my tounge) I don't remember him having to do a ton of work. he was a paint and body guy with what I'd say an intermediate skill level of mechanics. and he finished the job in 4 days. he did say the transmission was the easy part since it bolted up with I think 4 or 5 17mm bolts, that should be enough to make anyone happy. he kept all the Frontier wiring as far as I know. if he did have to weld anything, it couldn't of been anything major, I'm sure my V6 MR2 would of required more fabracation, and I finished it in 45 min. (the motor mounts that is)

yeah thats what i was looking at doing i would just like to find someone thats done it to find out somethings about it before i jump in to itW O T wrote:Grab a Vq35De then, there only 2000ish on ebay, BIG engine though, lotsa power compared to what youve got though, and the aftermarket is growing quite a bit, quite a few bolt on kits out there aswell
