Just curious as to what i can do to make my 1994 infiniti q45 faster, and run stronger overall. I don't want to do any "custom turbo chips" type stuff....i'm just curious is there any "easier" ways to get more out of my V8...intake/exhaust/etc...i've spent thousands replacing everything that has went wrong on this Q45 with OEM parts, aside from that, what else can i do to get more out of my V8...thanks!

Find out how much power you are currently making with the VH45DE you have: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dyno.htm. 1320 feet = a quarter mile.

The NICO ECU is probably the best thing you can do. There are some exhaust systems but overall from what most people have posted it isn't going to get alot faster. With money and time for sure you can do more, but I wouldn't even think for 1 second about putting a 90-92 motor in there, not nearly enough extra horse for the money.

Best advise, drive her the way she is and save for M56.

What exactly is the NICO ECU and how much? I'm going to google some information about it now, thanks.

Yeah i see that, that would be nice....but i appreciate the input...i looked up details on the NICO ECU, i think i'll start by going that route, and the K&N air intake, maybe a new sway bar, and headers....

Trust me on the K&N filter or have a spare MAF Sensor set asside at least. Headers are $1000 at the very least.

Does you car idle smooth enough that you would mistake the engine for being turned off when it running?

Not seriously, we hope! :slap:

If engine, transmission, brakes and suspension is fully restored, not a whole lot more you can do.

Here's a picture of the NICO performance ECU below. It mounts behind the passenger side kick panel. There is a bolt behind a strip of carpet that holds the kick panel tab to the firewall that must be removed. Then the panel connectors can be released for kick panel removal.

IMHO - this is the best G50 performance bang for the buck.

How fast is it now?

What kind of "faster" do you want (60', 0-60, 1/4 mile, passing, etc)?

Unfortunately, there's not a lot out there, unless you want to spend thousandS. The best bang for your buck is to learn how to avoid the "dead spots" (down shift-wise) it has and keep it up in the RPM range at "surface street speeds". Many of us drive/drove with the car in 3rd around town, to keep it from lulling/lugging in 4th.

This could be yours if you name the right price

Or perhaps one of these will net a 10+ hp gain

^^^ Would that even work in a US Q45? In regards to electric fans etc things that potentially are different between the president and the Q?

Sorry but not a car that is going to lend itself to being faster very simply. Didn't mean to be a d!ck, just not a turbo car that you can put bigger blowers and bang double your horse. the exhaust system will not get you much as Infiniti did a great job on the stock unit, so the NICO ECU is best bang from what everybody has posted.

Other than that get it in top OEM shape and enjoy.

Like everyone said the best engine upgrade is the NICO ecu. The next thing that would be looked at are the headers which are laughingly bad; it is common knowledge in the VH swap world.

post5239792.html?hilit=Headers#p5239792

Unfortunately the pictures are gone, but they were looking down one of the header runners looking at the hole in the down tube. I believe the runner diameter is 1.75 or 2" where the hole in the down tube was maybe 1", so there was about 1/4" of extra metal restricting exhaust gases; this is much like when you port a head to match the intake with head diameter because in many cases the diameter in the head was smaller than the intake.

Thanks alot for all these replies, i've been keeping everything OEM and she just hit 150,000....still going strong, i think the NICO ECU is definitely the next step, i think top speed i've had it at now is 137mph...& that was on the streets, no dyno or race track type test....

I'm your man for the NICO ECU.

I don't recall if you emailed me or not, but my email address is on the contact page of Q45.org.

BTW, the impul ECU will net you about 15-20HP LESS than the NICO ECU will.. Impul ECU will give about 20HP extra, NICO ECU is more like 40... Just FYI.
