How can I make a stronger(NA) KA24 in California.

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I kno I kno, I should move cuz California is hella strict on mods and stuff. But I just want to tune up my 97 ka engine. What are some ways to boost its power without getting a turbo, or a shot of Nitrous. I am planning on turbo later though. I'm a noob and yes I admit it ok. I am taking automotive class right now, I kno a quite bit about cars but not in knowledge of tuning wise yet. I'm buildin my 240sx for drag. Thanks ka24de 170,000 miles

Only significant bolt on's for OBD2.You could do the 240/248 cam swap from the OBD1 engines.Add a magna FLow high Flow CAT for OBD 2 engines.ECU emulation/NISTUNE ecu.2.5" or 3" exhaust, more likely to pass dB testing with am 2.5" exhaust.Bore the throttle body to 64mm, port the manifold for that bore size.extrude manifold runners from 44mm to 45mm diameter.Iridium spark plugs for less ignition foulingAEM intake pipe (CARB Legal)NISMO radiator capelectric fansaluminum fly wheelaluminum drive shaft

Funny thing about the radiator cap, I took half the spring out of my stock one so it holds like 1 psi, and I havent noticed any losses at all.

That way you don't have to waste your money on cam gears or buy and extra set of teh same cam. 240/248 is proven to work better with the G70 MAF, then it does with the OBD1 G60MAF, and SCV's.

Yes the purpose behind a higher rated PSI radiator cap is to raise the coolant boiling point. This way the coolant will transfer more heat reducing engine temperature allowing the engine to be more efficient, creating more power.

FYI you don't need to spend lots of money on one of these radiator caps, the standard 300z radiator cap will work just fine on s13 and s14 radiators.

A friend of mine in Sacramento is running a lightweight flywheel from Ebay on his SR. He has used it with no problems and is on his third clutch set in about 5 years. I ordered the same one (KA unit of course) for my car. It is the F1 racing piece and I paid under $200 for it including shipping. I had my local machine shop check the flywheel for trueness and balance, and it checked out perfectly.

If you have the space though, I would pick up a junkyard block and do a high compression rebuild. Which is what I did. Bored .20 over and using factory KAE pistons. I will be picking up some BC stage 2 cams here before the end of the year, and adding a small T25/T28 based turbo set up shortly thereafter. Right now I am collecting the pieces.

oh snaps i saw somebody mention sac town!

haha i hail from here too

anyway, putting my 2 cents in

if you want to make more power to the wheels for the ka and have it still PASS SMOG i would add to the list

performance clutchgood ignition timingpulleysbetter quality gaslightening the rest of the car (lol)

not sure they make carb legal headers...hmmmmm

all coupled with proper maintenance

i wouldnt suggest a cam swap because from what ive experienced the cars dont pass smog that well with a cam swap even though im sure its possible

good luck

p.s. anybody else representing sac. hit up the cali region forum and look for info on our meets
