Bigger turbos and nitrous! Rebuild bottom and top of engine including cams, pistons,Etc., make sure to put bigger injectors, fuel pump, so much to list for 10 second car. Is it going to be a street car or a track car? Shed weight too. Whether it is going to be either a street car or a dedicated track car.

Make an engine that produce at least 550rwhp, good tires, nice driving and shed some weight out of the car and you will run 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile, just be patience. There some other factors you must consider also, like the rear end, this in in the case of a Z31, but you not specified which 300Zx is....Z31 or Z32? Good luck with the project.

If you are running a Z32 need about 580 to 600rwhp and shed more weight out of the car than a Z31 to run in the 10 sec. zone. This is in case this is a daily driver.

Duct tape a rocket engine to the back. Make sure it is pointing to the rear of the car. you will do 10 sec in style!

at ~550whp on a z32, you start maxing out the stock potential for several parts.
engine internals rear end, etc.
10 seconds is quite a mark to hit.
-or-
you can just borrow his, right? :gapteeth:

Ummm, dude?

Have you ever driven a 10-sec car?

You do realize that "10-sec car" and "streetable" don't belong in the same sentence, right?

Unless you have $100K on hand, you might want to reconsider. And no, I'm not hatin' - A 10-sec Z32 would be a tube framed, parachute-wearing, tubbed, non-street-friendly beast.

I agree. But just for the sake of argument, 650 RWHP in a 3400 pound car should run low tens (10.1 or 10.2)

So, build the entire motor with stronger parts. Upgrade turbos etc. Go big enough for 650, but tune for about 450-500
Now, normal driving you see some turbo lag, and should be streetable.
When you hit the track, use a 200 shot of nitrous.
Now getting that power to the ground is a whole different story, and will likely make the car uncomfortable to drive. But I am just blowing wind here, since I drive an N/A that is slow.

A 10 sec or even a 9 sec turbo's car is very streetable... now whether you may get harassed for a modded car is different, but the car is very easy to drive... all the power comes on after 3500 rpms, so cruising and driving out of a light is simple (until the turbos start to spool, the car is a low compression NA). Now, what one needs for a 10 sec Z32:

minimum gt2860 turbos
manifolds
740cc injectors
intercoolers (front mount is desirable)
built bottom end (forged pistons minimum)
refreshed stock heads
650ftlb rated clutch
boost controller
basic ecu tune for race gas (but dyno ecu tune will get you 10% more - ~660rwhp easy for 10 sec pass)
down pipes, test pipes and exhaust
aluminum radiator
good sticky tires
and the ability to drive the damn thing down the track!

I came across this thread looking for simular answers from the Z Guru's. I am fairly new to the Z32 world and I am putting together a Z1 rebuild TT that has the following upgrades, please forgive my ignorance if I am not defining things properly but I am learning.
- Ride: 1992 300zx TT...........The Tab was about 20k for this build.
- Stage III Block
- Upgraded Auto Trans.
- GT800R Turbos
- Greddy Boost Controler
- 850 cc Injectors w/ 300 Degree rails
- Dual intake with Selin MAF Translater
- AMS Max Flow TT Exhaust Manifolds
- 3" AMS Stainless Steel Down Pipes
- 3" Test Pipes and 3" Exhaust
- Z1 SMIC's
- Howe TT Aluminum Rad w/ larger Trans. Cooler
- Specialty Z 4000 Stall Converter with Upgraded Flex Plate
- Specialty Z TT Diff upgraded to 4:10 gears
- ECU Upgrade with 93 octane setting
- EGR Delete and other Deletes

I have thrown in lots of other stuff like ALL new silcone hose replacement for all hoses including "accordian" hoses.
With appropriate tires and high octane gas, what could I expect to see for RWHP and approximate 1/4 mile run time?????? And if one were to add "Juice" , what could I expect then?
