A gutted cat actually robs your car of power, invest in a $20 test pipe off of EBAY.

yea i was considering that on a last resort basis. i was another 240 forum and read alot of shyt about people gutting their cats and what not. Said it was a cheap fix and a little more effective than some cheap ebay pipes. But i think im gona do the ebay deal anyways tho. thanx zach

i have heard that if you heat up the cat till its glowing red then give the engine a good rev it should blow everything out...

may want to take off all your exhaust after the cat though.

^well you know a cat gets like 700 degrees or something on a regular basis. that wouldnt be safe or effective.op: just beat the snot out of it, or do it right and get another cat.

If anyone wants to rebuild a stock cat, this is the good place.

http://smithcat.com

After market cat(Catco) is about an inch shorter than stock, so it won't fit right and won't last longer than stock. I need a new cat, so I'll have them rebuild mine soon. We have emissions where I live.

All this BS. My cat was making such a nasty sound, like a metal rattle, and i still passed smog here in Nazifornia. When i took it off - it was empty. Nothing there. So i just went ahead and bought a high-flow cat (cheap replacement - holes didn't line up perfect, but what do you expect for $30). And guess what - no power loss, nor sounds anything different.

wait wait wait...so I went to get inspection the other day and I failed because I don't have a cat, but instead I have a test pipe. My car is odb1 though, I feel like I was cheated...

I only have to pass emissions one more time and then my car is in the clear. Can I still get a ticket for having a test pipe tho? and is it a real expensive ticket? and how likely is a cop gonna check for that? how many cops can even identify a cat vs. test pipe? I know the cali cops are dam smart when it comes to modifications of exhaust and engines... but oregon cops?

The trick is to get your car low enough so that the officer can't look under.
