Hey there 240 fans! I just recently bought a great 91 240sx fastback for $600. I am planning on keeping the stock KA24-DE inside and saying no to the ever popular SR20DET. I was just wondering what would be the best way (while staying on the cheap side) to boost a KA to 400-500 hp. Ive searched and found other threads on this topic but they were only about the things needed to slap a turbo on the KA. I found a few good links but I wanna hear what everybody else knows (considering this is my first 240). Links to the parts you list would be helpful if possible. Thanks guys and happy boostin!

dr1ver

PS - I mentioned in my other post that this 240sx was my first car. I meant it was my first 240sx. I have a 93 Chevy Caprice with a 350 in it pushing bout 300 hp and I can drift in it. 500 horsepower might be much for me people would think, but I do have my reasons for wanting that much power out of a 240.

Heh. Only one way to do that. 900 shot of nitrous on a stock motor. You'll probably reach 500 rwhp for a small sliver of time. It will be all glory though, I promise.

You're asking a pretty noob question. The simple fact is that if you want that much horsepower, you CANNOT (and I mean absolutely cannont) do it cheaply while also having the motor reliable at all. A reliable 500 horsepower will cost you about 8-10 grand depending on how you want to go about it. If you consider that cheap then so be it, but if you're like the rest of us (buying $600 cars etc...), you can forget about the dream of a million horsepower for pocket change. It doesnt happen.

Another noob-ey thing about your question is that you are somewhat expecting people to run around and find you parts shopping lists so that everything is done for you. That is also not the way this works. If you want a strong, powerful, reliable motor- you are going to have to put your own work into it. Learn WHY you need certain parts, and what they do. Understand what is going on in that engine bay, and then you can start to make power. ...With money, of course.

Good luck dr1ver.

Thanks for tellin me I'm a noob. I do understand what youre saying and I agree with you...I do come off sounding like a noob, cuz I am. Me n a couple of my friends have been trying to find parts for the 240sx...one has got a Supra and has had a 240sx...hes been teachin me lotsa stuff about 240s. I admit I dont know much yet but thats why I am asking for help. If you think that Im a noob, I dont care...Ive already told you that I am. I am just looking for people who would be willing to tell me what all I need to do to get enough power, whether it be from a complete rebuild, nitrous, or turbo (idk), to help me beat this guy i know drivin a Corvette Z06. Thanks to anybody who doesnt wanna dwell on the fact that I'm a noob tryin to learn.

Don't you worry about Fiznat bro, he's just bitter cause he has a small pen15 and also tossed a rod through his block on his way to to the over 500 goal.

I'm starting a new article right now. About the entire turbo system from fuel tank to oil pan. This will include ALL of the info I've collected over the last 10 years, with pics and links and everything. I'm still on the side of believing this motor will put out a good amount of power, you just have to do it right the first time. Cause there is no second time, I also tossed a rod through the block and my car has been sitting ever since.

Welcome to Nico my friend, we're all noobs at somthing, at somtime in some place...If we knew everything, we wouldn't have this kickass forum now would we I should be done with that article sometime today/tonight.

If I can help you out with somthing, hit me up on AIM WDRACIN or email me @ [email protected], I'm almost always online so if ya wanna BS about music or cars chat me up.

Have a look at my build, it's not hard to reach.

Fully-built KA, 18psi, and don't skimp on engine management

Plan on spending $6K on the engine alone.

You've found the best KA-T info on the web - Lots of reading will make the journey MUCH less painful.

Dude take it easy, I didnt call you a noob. I just said you were asking a noob question. The two are not the same. All I'm sayin is that there really is no CHEAP way to build up a solid high-horsepower motor. If you try to do it for cheap (like you asked) you will end up with oil on the road. Trust me.

Also it is important that you learn about this before you dive in and start spending money. The first thing you should be asking for is where you can get a FSM, not which turbo parts to buy.

I'm not trying to belittle you. This is just the way it is-- you wont find better advice anywhere else. Learn as much as you can, and dont try to cut corners.

Again, good luck.

Is it a C6 Z06..??

If so.. You have a long ways to go.. You will definately need around 500 at the wheels to hang with him even from a roll.. They trap about 128.. The best I have trapped on my setup is 122, so he pulls me over about 110-120mph...

I'm looking to trap over 130mph on stock internals.. Basically you should probably just go with something in the T04R(67mm+) turbo field.. There are plenty of turbos that will do your power level that are smaller, but at that level, I would want something that will make the power with as little boost as possible. Focus on VE enhancing modifications(well designed intake and exhaust components/camshafts). A ROM tune would probably cut it if you were specific on the components you use and/or had the tuner tune it on the dyno.. I pesonally plan on switching over to AEM or similar, but thats up to you.. Spend a lot on monitoring devices if you don't go AEM EMS.. Now if I was just getting into my car, I would go PLX M-500 and Nissan Datascan..

I recommend getting your car up and running first on the setup. Run a conservative 7psi, tune for it, and dyno. On that setup, say good exhaust manifold and cams, if you can't make over 270whp, you need practice and/or have problems.. I feel it is best that every KA novice starts on a run-in KA block that is in good condition.. If you can't make at least 350whp on a stock block, you proably don't need to go pushing on a built block because it will just put you in the hole...

If you just want 400whp check out my setup... It was about 5-6k to get here..

thanks a lot for the advice nissanfan. your setup is pretty nice from what i can see...not that that would mean very much coming from a noobie lol. but yeah, its a C6...black...and it makes me stiff in the pants lol.

Yea you'll need some power to give him a run... I raced a 580whp cobra from a roll that traps about 127-128mph and he had me by about 4 cars by 120-130mph..

Its always nice to hear compliments..

Yeah, about that size issue thing...I think you're a little confused. It wasn't your pen15 she was talking about, it was that strap-on you have to wear to cover up your "size issue". BUUUURN!

Check this out, http://ka-t.org/cain.php . If 10psi gets him a 12.2 and the c6 runs an 11.5, it will no way take much to keep with the c6. Sorry, but more than likely he's going to trap higher than you, even if you pull him by half a second. You won't need 500hp to keep with him either, since a stock c6 has 505hp and your car weighs 500lbs less. but if 500whp is what you want, expect to spend 4-6grand total, and expect to walk all over the c6...if you can catch traction!
