well ever since i bought my G35 used with 75k miles i still love it

but the faulty gas gauge made my mom think my G eat lot of gas, which i don't think is true

i fill her up, drive for 220 miles, the needle will reach to the very bottom, i was like "WTF???" then drive for another 50 miles, it raise back up

then i go to gas station, fill up the car, 12 gal and the fill pump stop...

whats the real problem here? i thought all Gs here has 20 gal tank right?

should i do this one day,

take a road trip, drive my G till it totally ran out of gas and stop (i think it is really bad for the car) then fill it back up for 2 gal with a canister, i doubt it help the problem tho

so anyone know?

probably some sensor is bad...

but its never a good idea to let any car run dry on gas... your owner manual even has wording against it... but no consequences are listed...

my guess is the gas must help lubercate some areas of the engine as well as the active detergants in gas that keep engine deposits from forming...

some one correct me if im off...

Probably your valve is faulty or sticky. Do you have any other electricall isues?

Not a good idea to run your car out of gas. Basically you would run your fuel pump dry. It is a big NO.

Just take it to the dealer and let them deal with it. Another good thing to have warranty.

You do have a 20 gallon fuel tank.

Fill your tank and set your odometer A to zero

Drive 250 to 300 miles and refill your tank. Note how many gallons it took to fill. Probably 12 or less.

This will remain consistant and you could do without the gauge if you just filled up every 250 to 300 miles.

+1

I would imagine if something were wrong with the gauge itself you would have a gauge that did not move.

One cheap fix you can try is running some $10 fuel injector cleaner in the tank for a couple tanks of gas? Maybe be it is just dirty and will start working again? Since it works a little bit now.

If you decide to fix it yourself, disconnect the battery.Put car on ramps with wood blocks around the tires on the floor. + jack stands just incase if falls off the ramps or the ramps collapse.Pull the fuel pump fuse start the car until it won't start anymore, that should take most of the pressure out of your fuel lines.

The tank will be "strapped" to the bottom of the car. You should be able o loosen the straps with a jack under the tank.

Lower the tank is a 2 man job on a floor jack.

Remove sending unit and put in new sending unit.

Re install tank.

Your car does have a 20 gallon tank.

The little "low fuel" light usually comes on when you still have 3.5-4.5 gallons in the tanks. So once you've gon through around 16 gallons, the light comes on and the needle usually sits around 1/8 tank or less.

There are two things to consider:

1) The tank isn't a regular shape. As such the gauge will move slower in some areas and faster in others. It's just the nature of the beast.

2) The floater/sensor can get dirty and not want to move up and down correctly. My understanding is that there are two of them. 1 is attached to the fuel pump, and the other is accessible if you pull out the rear seat. Cleaning the sensor supposedly makes things better.

You'll definitely want to consult someone on this before pulling out your seat though.

when i bought my G35 coupe used off a Toyota Dealer i also bought a extended Warranty for another 75,000 miles

they say "wear & tear" stuff aren't cover under it

Warranty is call "MAP" any of you guys heard of it?

do you guys think this go wrong is covered by Warranty?

i searched the Forum some people say the dealer ask them to replace the fuel pump which cost $800 , I HOPE IS COVER!!

and yes, my G35 also has other electrical problem, is the Navgation "enter" button, when i press it, it jump everywhere but for sure it has nothing to do with the Fuel Gauge, i guess thats the reason why the Previous owner let the car go...
