how can i figure out which vh45de i have

engine serial can be decoded or it will be stamped on the timing guides the date of production.

OP - I did the search for you...

Of course, this will only tell you if it is a newer or older style motor, not the exact year. You will need to use Carl's method for an exact year.

on top of back of motor, what does it say-----VH45, and what is the #? its a production #, but givs us a start, other then that, with the flywheel off, its in there too.

ok im sorry for the crap pics taken with a phone in a dark workshopfrom what i can see it has no access plate and the CAS plug is sideways.

those pics dont really do any good, but im going to reckon a guess judging by the coil ignitor that you have an early style motor. It also looks like the CAS plug is on the side, not on the top, also indicating its an early motor.

x2. Seeing the CAS makes me assume it's a 90-93.

x3 on the 90-93 - the PTUs are pretty unique looking with the aluminum fins on top. Mine are black flat plastic.....

not all pre 93 engines have access plates, came across a q in the yard that was a 90 but had no access plates.

I've found this to be true after I made that thread, but everything else seems to hold consistent.

Has anyone seen a 94+ motor with access plates?
