What's the best way to rotate the tires on my Q? Should I go straight front to back or left to right. Or, LF to RR, RF to LR, etc....

What has been proven to be the best?

Thanks,

For non-directional tires I move the fronts straight back and the rears cross L-R and R-L to the fronts.

I never change radials side to side, as I've heard the belts take a "set" and you risk tread separation by reversing the rotation. Just front to rear swaps for me.

I am old school like 911/Q45. Front to rear and side to side only by dismounting and remounting, even on non-directionals. Directional wheels (such as the Z32 16") will force any user to do the same.

Modern day tire technicians say reversing the rolling direction is no big deal on modern radials, but I am sure the rolling wear has to be increased, if only marginally.

This is a good question for Dennis to ask his Michelin engineer.

So by going side to side I could cause a blowout?

Probably not a blowout, just a split in the tread that doesn't necessarily penetrate the carcass. Still no fun.

AH! I just found tire rotation on page MA-15 of the FSM. It recommends front tires going straight back and rear wheels going to the opposite side on the front.
