Im new to RWD, just picked up my first 240 (98, bone stock). Ive done motor swaps in FWD's before, no biggie. Im looking to swap my KA or an SR, but do a very basic- almost OEM setup for now. Tight budget. Is it absolutely nessecary to upgrade to an FMIC? Do I need to replace the clutch, water pump, or timing belt when I buy a front clip? If I get a front clip, would I need anything else besides a fuel pump and an exhaust?

Sorry for the whole mess of questions... Im a little excited about my new whip. :D

It seems like a front clip can be had for about $2500 minimum for a decent one, plus $100 for the fuel pump and $500 for the exhaust. Give $300 for misc parts and fluids... could I get an SR in my car for under $3500??

you should but a clutch in it while your swapping it because its easier to do it now then later.so you could probably do it for that much but shipping with be alot. the clip shoud have everything but a fuel pump and exhaust and the clip should start up when you get it.

It should start up? It'll have a battery and everything? Wheres the gas come from?

Is an FMIC that much better, or can I rock a side mount for a little while?

If you get a complete front clip thats all you really need..You dont need an exhaust or a fuel pump..They are only NEEDED if your running higher than stock boost..The 240sx exhaust and fuel pump are the same as the silvia's and 180sx in japan.Even the cats are the same.Everything will bolton. You will just have to get your main wire harness done to work for your sr..But thats easy..

Bare bones is one thing, but from experience with other peoples cars, I would strongly suggest you save your money, get the parts you need, and then swap it all at once....

I'm with codyace. You can get away with upgrading nothing actually but once the swap is done you will thrash on it a bit and your clutch is going to crap out from the get-go. The other things will make your motor more durable and happy with you but aren't required per se. Best to save your money so you can do basic upgrades that should have been done from the factory but weren't.

I think what Im going to do is get a black top front clip, and a new clutch and light weight flywheel. Everything else can be replaced at a later date. (I may have a new water pump put on too). But I'll run the stock SMIC and all that. That should be do-able for around $3000-3500 in parts, yeah? Ill save up $4000 to be safe.

I'm pretty sure what shop you're using, so why not let them get the parts you need and go from there?

I plan to get the blacktop swap from them- I just think i can get the rest of the parts cheaper myself. If I could afford it, I'd have the shop do the whole swap. I dont think thats a possibility for me- Id like to see this motor go in before 2010... Ive really gotta do this swap as cheaply as possible... I can throw money at it fairly well once the motor is in- Im just not very good at saving up large sums of cash. Ive got about $700 put away towards the swap, and am selling one of my cars to kick start the savings... another $1500 there...

I need another job..

I planed on spending 4g's and 2 months doing the swap.I ended up spending 6g's and took 8 months! (money saving time(im poor))After that, I spent another 2g's on more motor parts.I just spent another $1500 on nismo lsd/breaks/wheels n tires.I plan on spending another $1500 on suspenshion in 2 months.Thats almost 12 G's!!! With me doing ALL the work -wiring.I have gone threw at least 12 problems in 2 months! The swap could range from $2500-$25,000!!!

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!!

Btw if u really want to save money, instead of paying 500 for a greddy fmic kit you can get a ebay intercooler with piping for like 200-250$ and for your goals it does the job very well..

The rest seems ok
