While looking at another QX4, took pics of any rust I could find.
It's in Chicago so enough said there on the weather. For $4500 not feeling comfortable from initial look.

In addition to the duct tape (likely a hackjob for an exhaust leak or rust there too) the oil(?) on the rear end makes me wonder why this car is being sold at 135k miles in such a nice area.

Why not look for one from someplace with no rust? For the cost of transport, you could get one that's not a pile of corrosion.

Here's the deal: ANY rust is bad. If it's visible, it's 10x worse in the places you CAN'T see.

Doesn't look terrible to me. Was the strut corrosion recall performed on the vehicle?

Thanks all. Just touching under the running boards, parts of the rust crumble in my hand. Decided to say no.
Talking to the owner, he was clueless about the recall and that tells me he did not do it.

This car is in the Chicago (Addison) area for sale by private owner if anyone interested. I am going to pass on it but happy to discuss my impressions and findings. It's an 03 with 135k miles in silver with the navi package and a rear view camera.

Will proceed on a CA car instead hopefully.

Good call on passing it up. The front control arms on that were scary rusted and that does not bode well.

For $4500 you should be able to get one without scary bits..
