Hey guys. I ended up buying an SR for $100 and my KA24E in trade, and have just ripped it apart. I'm now thoroughly confused, because I have no idea as to whether it's in bad condition or not! I'd like to rebuild the whole thing, but the rod bearings look like their in terrible condition, and I am a little worried that the uneven wear on the crank bearings means that the crank might be warped. Any ideas? Here's a boatload of pictures of all the parts:

Heh. Any ideas? Thanks in advance to ANYONE who actually reads through this!

Shoot man, you should have just ran it! It's in good shape. The only questionable pic is the second to last one, is that copper showing or just a reflection of light?

Anyways, it's a solid builder. When you take it to the machine shop, they will check all the tolerances, along with checking the crank for straightness.

One more thing, the one pic of your cam, the lobe looked worn. Can you feel a ridge on it?

very nice....bearing wear would have been a issue if you let it go any longer, but a little time at the machine shop an you will be as good as new

Any reason to why or how you got it so cheep? I bet you it had rod knock. But now that you tore it down, its not really a problem. Just go through all the proper steps to rebuild it.

It's a possibility. I'm racking my head as to why it was so cheap, but this engine is just getting better and better (the only thing in my car not doing the opposite). I took the crank to a machinist today, and he says it's perfectly straight. I'm getting it balanced anyways.

Here's what I'm getting done:

hone, minor decking (doesn't really need it, as the surface measures as flat, and there are no gouges/scratches), balancing of rotating assembly, new rings, ring gapping, and all new clevite bearings (measured, machined and installed). Being done right now.

I'll then be putting that back together.

Top-end I'm thinking I'll be doing BC springs and retainers. I gotta wait till I make a copy of that snap-on tool before I start that. I'll be getting a set of poncams possibly to put on top as well if budget permits.

Thanks for all your help guys!
