My 01 QX4 has 135,000 miles and I've gone through a ton of work so far with mechanical problems. How are your's doing?
So far what has been done to my knowledge
Replaced Fuel Neck
Replaced Throttle Body
Replaced Valves
Replaced Crankshaft
Replaced Exhaust
Replaced Ignition Coils
Replaced Brakes
Replaced MAF

There is a lot more and my car's throwing codes again. Im getting tired of bringing it to the shop every week but the exterior and the interior are in such good condition and I can't really get a nice truck for the same price

195,000 miles, 70K of those towing a 2000ish pound boat trailer., '01 stick shift PF.

clutch
an O2 sensor
MAF
rear upper trailing links twice
front brake pads about four times
Camshaft advance solenoids (which did NOT fix the problem)

123.3k

Two camshaft position sensors
Leaking rear main seal (very small leak; not fixed, too expensive)

However I've only been driving & maintaining this PF since 109k. This was my mother's vehicle previously and as far as I know had no major repairs done as of yet. I could use new brakes and suspension, though.

what's the problem?
Probably good time to get a ODBII reader since you're in the habit of getting codes :P

262,000km and I've only put on 14,000km of them

-At 260,000km transmission rebuild (Seeing as I intend to keep the trucks for atleast 5 more years, I could care less)

-p0420 code that comes up now and again; the ongoing mystery

This still doesn't change my view of the truck

I noticed this once before: 70% of the problem posts on here are for the 2001's. I just don't get it.
I know if I ever buy another R50, it won't be a 2001.
My 2002 Pathfinder has been trouble free since I bought it in 2003.
Not to say it hasn't required repairs, but it has all been "normal" stuff: struts/shocks, brakes, battery, O2 sensors and most recently, a universal joint. Nothing serious.
I have 235,000 Kms.

I think most of the major issues with the 2001s were solved by the 2001.5 revision, which included different ignition coils as the most obvious change. Manufacturing dates 01/01/2000-08/31/2000 are 2001 and 09/01/2000-06/30/2001 are 2001.5.

2001 QX4 4wd 173k miles
o2 sensors

that's it, absolutely everything else is perfect. (I probably will look into control arm bushings etc soon, shocks surprisingly are still fine)

Those who had trans replaced how much are you guys spending? If I get rid of my QX4 it most likely would be because of the anticipation that one day when the trans decides to go it will be $$$$$. I run a good trans cooler and the trans is perfect now but I worry sometimes :D

I had a 2000 QX4 with 200k miles, with that one I had more issues (Distributor, cat, etc)

2004 Pathfinder, 4WD, 148,000 km (92k miles).
2003 Pathfinder, 4WD, 180,000km (112k miles). In an accident and written off.

The only repair that (both!) these Pathfinders needed was replacing the DTRL module. One headlight stopped working, and the bulb, relay, and switches were eliminated as causes. Once the module was replaced (~$200 from courtesyparts, shipped to Canada) they worked fine. Since we're talking daytime running lights, this issue wouldn't affect US models.

Everything else done to these two has been simple maintenance work.

I paid $3113.05 for a partial rebuild. From the begining, I was quoted between $2300-$3500 tax in. $900 of it was for removal and installation. My other options were a Nissan refurbished Trans for something like 4 grand or a used one with 160,000km on it for about 3 grand. I used Mister Transmission by the way.

As a side note, there were no real warning signs. It was driving normally until I went over a bump, then it felt like I had geared down from then on. Apparently, the torque converter had broke and sent metal into some of the gears.

Just for comparison. 1997 QX4 the original year, bought at 1-1/2 years old, warranted for close to 3 years.
Infiniti paid repairs, brakes front end recall, front struts, complete exhaust, rear rebounders, 2 O2 sensors

Next 11 years, 2 suspension links, front struts, rear shocks, 3 outer tie rods, 1 ball joint, 3 sets of tires, 2 sets of front brake pads,1 battery, 2 headlights

plus regular maintenance, all fluids.

Most is wear parts wearing out.

If I had to spend anywhere from $3000-4000 grand on a transmission I'd probably part the car out and junk what I couldn't sell. I figured I spent almost that much on the car so I'd prob take the cash and put it towards another used suv.

01 Pathy Le`s go for about $8,000 up here, so $3100 wasnt too bad. Also about 7 months before that, the front end had $4700 in cosmetic work done(insurance paid for it) to make it look better than new. Also about $600 on a remote car starter that wouldn`t be worth removing. I also don`t have the time or space to part out a truck.

I don`t think I could find another one that I`d be happy with, Unless it was a Green 04 Platinum Edition :bigthumb:

2004 Platinum bought in 2007 at 51K, now has about 82K

parts replaced because of mechanical issues....

None :)

parts replaced because I believe in being pro active, and not reactive...

the majority of these parts were directly bought from Nissan, and/or were installed by Nissan

timing chain
oil pump
water pump
tension pulleys
accessory belts
every drop of fluid in the vehicle
all filters
spark plugs
headlight bulbs
factory ground wires in engine bay that had corrosion (I'm that anal)
brake lines (upgraded to stainless steel)
tires (including the spare)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something..but I've had absolutely zero problems with my rig, other then things that are caused from outside sources (replaced windshield because of a Rogue random rock bouncing on the highway)

2003 Nissan Pathfinder Chilkoot, I just bought the Truck last week, it had 164,000 Kms, (102,000 miles).

All fluids been changed.
New Tires, Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max CS. (I hope they will save me some money) i doubt it!.
front Driveshaft rear U-joint.

Going in next week for Rear driveshaft balancing and replacing both rear driveshaft ujoints.

next will be spark plugs, wires and fuel filter

I love the truck so far, but it'd like to get rid of this vibration i get at 100km (60miles)

Anythings else you would recommend to replace before it breaks down on me?

I've done the power valve screws personally. I'm sure quite a few regulars have as well.
