how are the conn rod journals (6) on the RB crank aligned w/ resp. to pistons?

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

Random question, but if anyone knows it would be nice to know

Does anyone know how the conn rod journals on the RB aligned (degree wise), with respect to each other? Looking at a crank like this, my guess is

Cyl #'s1,6 \2,5 | ---- Paired together = same degree ----< Each set is 120* apart3,4 /

Does this make sense? If it is correct, I'm guessing that within each of the three groups the two cylinders are on the same stroke all the time?

PS - maybe on that crank it looks like 1,6 and 2,5 are 90* apart and 3,4 is 120* counter clock wise of 2,5 when viewing straight from crank nose. But I though I've seen them the other way I just can't find the pic.

Yes. The same stroke, but opposite. Between 1 and 6 for example, 1 will be at TDC on the compression stroke and 6 will be at TDC on the exhaust stroke. The nice thing about I6 motors is that they naturally balance themselves for the most part.

They all have to be 120 degrees apart or else it wouldn't make any sense and wouldn't be balanced.
