How are computer fans measured?

Like A right? I searched on the inet and some computer modding sites but apprently either i'm too much of a newb or everyone is too afraid to ask. Because I found a ton of threads on the computer modding sites that ask if the fans are 'supposed to fit like this' but never tell how fans are measured.

I'm convinced it's A after looking at it, but now i'm told by one of the modding sites is B. I think he's an idiot.

Measure A, but for mounting in a computer as an additional exhaust/intake you'll want to measure the fan blades for cutting and fitment.

A if it's a case fan, and if it's a CPU fan, it's determined by the socket that the CPU uses.

What ya need dano? I have quite a few extra fans here. I can send one out to ya if you need...

Oh it's cool, I was just thinking about adding some lighting pizazz to my new PC and maybe quieting it down some, though it appears at the moment i'm screwed. 90-92mm fan and no molex connectors. It doesn't leave many appealing options...
