Ive had the noise before when I first started the engine but I guess I toned it out and forgot about it. Then I started up my car for the first time since November and I heard it again. It's almost like a whirling or the sound of bearings spinning. It's coming from where the engine and tranmission meet. I cant tell if it's from one or the other. I had a feeling it might be the release bearing. When it's in neutral and I rev the engine up a bit, the whirling speed gets faster.

I'd take a vid or a sound clip but you probably wouldnt hear it like I would. Also, I know I may have a few other sounds so you might get confused with those. Cam gears rubbing against the inner timing cover, the clicking lifters, and then the loud exhaust.

What do you think it might be?

If you thing it's around the clucth area, push in the clutch pedal. If your noises are coming from that area, then this will definitely help you identify it because it should change its tone or completely stop. Then again, it could be your transmission itself. If you've concluded that the noise is coming from around your transmission area, then it's time to pull it, inspect the clutch area, and/or take your transmission to a qualified tech. Don't waste time and wait for others to respond because your problem maybe unique to your vehicle and it could get worse.

My throwout bearing on my FC did that when I hard shifted from 2-3 and broke a finger off of it. When I pulled it, and replaced it, the noise went away.

What Dee said. If its the throw out bearing when ou push the clutch in and rev it it should change tone or stop compared to when its just in a gear with the clutch engaged.

Start the car, put it in neutral and release the clutch.

Now depress the clutch.

If the sound is still present, but sounds different, it's a Throwout Bearing.

If the sounds stops after about a second, it's the input bearing on the transmission and will have to be replaced by someone who knows how to work on transmissions. It's not a DIY job, trust me, I tried....
