I don't, you might have a problem with any kind of aftermarket exhaust parts in California, they've got strict emmissions laws there.

i just put on my hot shot header a few months ago and here is the break down with this product; when you remove the stock header the spot for the O2 sensor is not present on the Hot shot so.....what I had to do was torch a hole in my HKS piping to create the second hole for the O2 sensor. Luckly i had a plug that fit the O2 sensor so i just welded it in place. I called the company and they said they were just going to start supplying the plug. We'll see!

The HotShot header is not CARB certified. The DC Sports header *may* be. You can probably find out on their website.

good stuff

willl i notice a gain with just a header or will i have to do a catback and even a high flow cat as well?

i just cant justify spending 5 to 6 hundred for catback pipe and a muffler!

the cheapest i can find is megan racing cat back, is it worth the 350 to 400 pricetag?

or is there possibly anyone on this site that can provide mandrel bent stainless for our cars at a reasonable price, like maybe 200. i can pick up a muffler from just about anywhere

thanks again

I don't know alot about the Megan Racing exhaust, but it looks decent enough from the pictures. There's a sale going on in the Advertisers Forum...

Personally, I'd replace the cat on an older car if I was doing the header and exhaust. I'd actually do the cat and exhaust before the header, but that's just me.

You should feel the difference with a header and 3" catback exhaust. It will be really, really loud...not a problem if you're OK with that.

I'm also not sure about the legality of replacing an OE cat with a high flow unit like a CatCo in the state of CA.

As for the mandrel bent piping, you can buy it online but then you would have to cut, weld, get the right flanges, hangers, etc. You could probably get a local muffler place to put something together for you, but I don't know if it would be cheaper than the Megan Racing exhaust.

the dc sports and hot shot header eliminate the stock catalytic converter on s14 models, not sure about s13 since i have never seen the placement of the cat on those. i am assuming they are just like on the s14. however with the megan header you could still utilize the stock cat on an s14

Hotshot or DC Sports don't eliminate the cat on S13's, unless CA models are different. Besides, no CARB sticker for the Megan header.

true but on the megan header you can still utilize the stock cat, and depending on how strict the emissions are you can still pass. we just recently got emissions here in austin and a friend of my had a hotshot, then replaced it with a megan and the cat on his 1997 240sx and he passed no problem

i'm curious why your friend would replace the hotshot with megan.

did he not pass emissions cause of the hotshot?

was his check engine light on?

i beleive 96 and newer vehicles get plugged into the OBD 2 port to check the emissions, well sorta, it checks to see that there is nothing setting off any codes, so you could actually fail for something non emission related. i used to work at an emissions place here in wisconsin.

they should have never done that.

that is an option, say if a reading from the OBD 2 port couldn't be achieved (happens sometimes if the battery was recently disconnected and the sensors didn't have enough info to give), (and some cars it just wont work on).

i've had people run out from the booth and stop me before i did the "sniffer" test cause they knew it wouldn't pass that way, and they would just come back another day. just an option for your friend. (if he ever comes across a prob like that again) that's one of the best reasons for owning a 96 or newer (i think), you can amost always fool the cpu into thinking all is okay, with o2 simulators.

wish i had an OBD 2 240
