Went to the car wash, found that my left rear wheel was so hot that it caused steam when I washed it. Limped home and found the rear caliper was not releasing completely. Pulled it off to replace it (took a hammer), but when I pulled it apart it looked like a little cleaning up would help. Used emery cloth and brake fluid and cleaned it well then replaced. End of problem. Brakes work well, hub is cool. This was several thousand miles ago with no return of the problem. Don't know how much money I saved, but it was some and the task was simple.

Just thought you might want to know.

I had a similar problem with my 1993 Probe GT (back in 1994). Car seemed slow so I pulled over and saw steam. Walked around the car and the rotor was glowing red. Ended up having to replace the caliper to fix the problem or I would have to crawl under the car and hit the brake release with a hammer. Ford was aware of the issue but would not fix under warranty at the time.

Had this happen on my previous car (2002 G20). Calipers stuck shut, completely ruining pads, rotors and of course the calipers. If only I washed my car more often, maybe I would have noticed the steam and done something about it in time. Oh well, hopefully Infiniti has fixed the issue so I won't have the same problem on my 2011 G27.
