Just went for a drive in 38.5C heat (100+F) & the car perfomed pretty good. There was VERY little to no, pinging & the engine had about 90% of power.

Why did it run so well? I hear you ask, well I was given some tablets to try in the fuel & they work a treat. Anything under 28C temps now & there is a good amount of tyre squeel at take-off.

The tablets are called "Dyno-Tab" & they're made in the US & have made a difference to my 94 Q45.

Maybe you won't get as good an improvement as me, because our fuel is down to 3rd world standards, in Australia, but I'd like to hear from anyone who tries them, & the results they got also. :D

There are lots of things you can add to gasoline to make it burn slower but unfortunately they all are carcogens or attack the catalytic convertors or contaminate the O2.

The amount of BTU [heat energy] in gasoline is pretty well fixed so all one can do is add things to adjust the flame speed.Antiknock additives [other than the ones the refineries use] are mostly banned----tetra ethyl [methyl] lead, phosphorus.http://www.nature.nps.gov/toxic/gasadd. ... /eferr.htm

The ignition advance is varied to get 66% burn by 17 degrees after top dead center. Say it takes 37-40 degrees [of time at 4,000 rpm to accomplish this] yet one cylinder is knocking EARLY so the timing never gets optimized for peak power!

Brand new cars are as clean as it gets [combustion deposits] and it is down hill every mile from day one.

I would expect OBD2 to perform very well, near the limits of what's possible [less the factory safety factor] under all normal temperature conditions 0F - 120F.

The old Leaded fuel had 1 carcogen, but the new Uleaded fuel has 4. We were told never to touch or even breath the vapour of the Unleaded fuel, as it is so toxic.

For more intelegent info on the Dyno-tab, check out this link at http://www.dynotab.com/233ftr76fe.htm

I wonder if those "tabs" are just mothballs?

Seriously - That's an old racer trick to increase octane.

Tried them also in my Work van. The idle is now about 100rpm higher at idle.

Something must be working.

Every Mechanic Workshop I talk to who have tried these things, swear by them. This is one, of only two additive, that we have found to have any Positive effect.

Of course adding IRON based additives to an all aluminum engine has its downsides but when your gasoline quality is so bad you must do something.

Just be sure you study the chemistry of what you are doing as catalytic convertors are expensive to replace and valve seats -bearings even more so.

Magic pills are much like most human prescriptions they cover up some symptoms [via a small slightly poisonous dose] and don't cure the problem. Some are designed to get you addicted to their improvements and without them the problems seem to get worse the moment you stop!

Generally inorganic additives leave a residue somewhere...zinc and phosporus in oil;....... lead, moly, and iron in fuel........silicates , borate, nitrates in coolant.

According to all the info, these pills are Safe to use with the Cats & sensors etc & it is also EPA approved. (not EPA endorsed)

They seem very guarded about the ingredients, but the FE3 on the tablet suggests Iron.

All I can say is that the engine performs constantsly beautiful, & it just wasn't to GO.
