How much will it cost to have the engine hot tanked, honed, bored, and putting new pistons in? Anyone ever done this?

ABOUT $600, WELL FOR ME ANYWAY. IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE MACHINE SHOP.

The price I was quoted last week for some machine work:degrease block (dunno if its the same as hot tanking) : 75bore and hone: 65align hone: 85resurface block: 95balance rotating assembly: 125clean and assemble short block: 200re-grind crank: 65

I dont think I'll be getting all of that done, but there's an estimate for you. I included the assembly since you mentiond getting pistons put in. For me, assembly includes file fitting the rings, determining which bearings are needed, checking clearances on everything and putting it all together, I think 200 bucks is well worth that I should be out the door for between 6 and 800 including bearings and gaskets.

haha, Jessie and I allready had this discussion, I'm going to disservice my engine and see how bad it is NOT to torque plate hone it. After looking at the block good and hard I just cant see it distorting very much at all, I also discussed it with several people with built KA's who have had good experience NOT torque plate honing it...we shall see how it does! If it breaks I can always swap in another stock KA for cheap, unlike you poor SR guys ;)

If it ever breaks 400 I'll be suprised, I have no plans of turning this into an all out drag car, just a quick street ride :) It'll get dynoed once it's broken in though out of curiosity and to see how much that little 50 trim t3/to4e can put out. I'll post dyno sheets when it happens :D
