I finished my CA swap about 3 days ago and so far so good except for one thing. I have this strange hot starting rpoblem. I doesn't happen all the time. Only after driving it for over 20 mins then i let it rest for maybe an hour. I will try to start my car and cranks but it wont catch. Maybe after a few trys it will catch but it will only idle for a second and if i touch the throttle it will just die. Also it smells like fuel real bad after numerious atemps to start it. I check the ecu and i get code 34 for the knock sensor. Im going to wire in a 1m ohm resistor tom. seeing as im running a stock set-up so i should be pretty safe. But could the code 34 be causing this. I was also thinking maybe it is my colant temp sensor but it's not throwing a code for that.Thank you for any help.

leaky injector.

Run some injector cleaner through the engine. Might help, but you really should take them out and flow test and leak test them at an fuel injection service place.

If you don't believe me you could:Run the car until it's warm. Leave it for 2-3 minutes, disconnect the coils and then remove the spark plugs from all 4 cylinders. Then crank the starter. You'll see a puff of petrol come out of the cylinder who's injector was leaking. ps. Don't smoke while doing this.

Leaking or stuck injectors are common on jap-import engines.

I second the injector issue. This is a very common problem with rotaries as well, so you should be used to this!!

I had a fuel cut switch in my FC that I wired in to kill the pump and make the car die when I shut it off. Never had hot start in my FC again. But that is ghetto. Pull the bad injectors and get them cleaned/rebuilt.

About the code 34: I had this for a year. All kinds of goofy stuff would happen. Bad starts (cold or hot) running like crap under 4k and off boost, etc. Are you sure you wired the knock sensor right? It is a common issue to not have wired correctly...

Did you know that CA18s have a 'reduce fuel' mode as part of the throttle position during cranking.

Like a carburettor car, if you put your foot flat to the floor while cranking, the car will pump less fuel and more air to clear the engine of excess fuel.

It's a leaky injector. So stop blubbering and pull them out and get it sorted.

:-)
