Does anyone subscribe to HR magazine?

I was traveling over the last couple of days and saw a HR, that had an interesting blurb on the cover. It was something like V8 motors -US vs. Europe vs. Japan. I glanced at the article inside and it appearded that the only Japanese V8 was our beloved VH45DE.

Wish I had picked it up and I can't find anything on thier site :(

I saw that magazine at Walmart. You are right when you say it was a blurb. Even the diagram they used was fuzzy.

They mentioned something about the engine being used in a hot rod that won some major award in 1994.

That's the exact article I'm talking about. They even close the article with a note saying they planned on using all these charts to show all kinds of different thing, HP per ci, TQ per ci, etc, for both NA as well as SC or Turbo. But in the end (they admitted) all the leaders were the European motors, so OF COURSE they weren't (they didn't admit this part) gonna take up 2 pages to do that.

I have that article and they were rating the 20 best v8 made in the past 20 or 30 years and yes our VH45DE made the list. The article did say it has true street rod cred, and the award was hot rod of the year in 1994. the car that received the award had the Q engine in it. It douse not say if it was the Q or not. I'm impresst that the eng made the list, not that it did not deserve the tittle but it was only made for 3 years and only came in the Q45 90-93. good job on the research.

Try until 1996 for the US and 2002 for the JDM.

Brian's right. It was made for six years for the UD market.

BTW, the car that the VH45DE was in was an old rod - Like a thirties-model domestic.

A few years back, I saw an Olds Cutlass (G-body) with a Northstar swapped in. Pretty cool, but would have been far better with the VH45.

I know a certain Q that just got a healthy VH45 this week. I'm going to pick it up soon! w00t!

that article was actually not a versus, but just showing what they thought to be the best 8 cylinder motors ever built. It was supposed to be V8s but those crazy germans and their funky W8 messed that up...
