I need help sorting out electrical problem after weber conversion. I installed a new Weber and replaced the electric choke with a manual cable operated one. the 1984 ,720 ran very nicely on trip number one. On trip number two it ran well then died while traveling at 30 mph.
After that the engine would start and run well in park or neutral but shifting to any gear (automatic) kills the motor.
When running the shift lever I hear clicking from one of the smaller relays under the glove box and from a similar relay on the fender near the battery.
The relay under the glove box was very warm.
The new carb had electrical connectors for the fuel heater and for the choke, neither of these are now hooked to anything and are safely taped against shorting.
Does anyone have a link that describes the purpose of these relays? Anyone know why one relay should run hot?
Or if one these these things is the problem or are the loud clicks and heating symptoms of a malfunction of some they control?
Does the under seat computer need a load on the carb related wires to let the engine run?
I am baffled because the engine starts, purrs but quits when shifted out of park.
Thanks for any clues
