When Jimmy Tsang decided to build a show winner, he wasn't messing around. His jet black, twin-turbo Infiniti G-35 coupe was one of the hottest rides to make its debut this year, wowing thousands of show-goers with its stylish combination of luxury, power and all-out bling.
"I really like this look. It's a good look even when it's stock," says Tsang. "I used to have an Infiniti FX45 SUV, that was all stock, but I traded it in to get this." So far, Tsang's project has paid off handsomely. He first broke it out in February for Auto Jam 2K6, where he took first place in the luxury division. Then, with a few more mods, he took top spot in early April's Island Import Night, when he won first place in the 2-Door Extreme category as well as Best of Show.
He didn't do as well in the April 22 X5 Supershow. Despite several different upgrades, he wound up second in his class, Xtreme Luxury."I'm not really disappointed. I got a lot of comments from people who liked it," he says. "The way I look at it, people walk around the car, they look around, they walk around twice. The longer they stay, the better. And they stayed pretty long."
Tsang gave people plenty to look at, both inside and out. With about $20,000 worth of mods and accessories invested, Tsang's creation appeals to both art and action alike.
"I originally wanted to make it both show and race, but now I'm leaning mostly to the show part," he says. "After I put everything on it, I don't feel like racing. And the car's kind of heavy," he says. He adds that with the turbo system, he should get about 350 horsepower from his car.
Most of his money, however, went into the pretty stuff. His interior was expensive to outfit, starting with $1,600 Bride seats (that's $1,600 EACH), as well as re-upholstering the rear seats to match the front. Among the other accessories are an array of gauges, Momo steering setup, Nismo titanium shifter, Sparco seat belts and even an Xbox 360 game system.
His ICE, or in-car entertainment, includes a Panasonic head unit and four pairs of JBL speakers. Along with the sounds come extreme video featuring -- count 'em -- 11 video monitors. That's two in the seat headrests, two inside the trunk, a 17-inch screen in the trunk lid, two in the quarter panels, two screens on the driver's door and a 7-inch screen in the engine bay. Is that 11? Nope. There's also one in the center console.
Up next are racing pistons, upgraded camshafts and Stillen sway bars, though there's no telling what he will do if he gets in the mood.
"I was hoping that this car would be undefeated this year, but that didn't happen," he says. "But that's OK. Now, I'm waiting for Hot Import Night and the Block Party."
Tsang plays ping pong, basketball and soccer when he gets a chance. He shouted out Redline Motorsports, CarAudio Image, RS Kustomz, Proline, Pat's Garage, Tropical Shine, MDR Motorsports, Nissan Motors, Hafa Adai Signs, the boys from Made To Excite and all the people who helped him along the way.
